No Claims Bonus Problem..

Hi Guys and Gals,

Myself and my partner have just moved house (to cut costs!) and are now planning to get rid of one of our two cars (as I can now walk to work rather than driving...)

The problem we have now is that neither of us want to lose our full no claims bonuses that we have aquired over the years, and was wondering what would be the best course of action? Do any companies out there offer policies with what we require? It's just that neither of us want to start from scratch in a few years time if we decide we need two cars again... Or will the no claims bonus from the "named" driver be kept even tho they don't have their own policy?

Also, as we'll both be using the car in roughly equal amounts - so far I've found that i can get cheaper quotes in my name - with my partner as a named driver than the other way round.. If she is the "main" driver with me as the named, the prices are higher.. I presume there's nothing wrong with putting me down as the main driver even though the car we're keeping is registered in my partners name?

Many thanks in advance for your advice,
Regards,
Broomster.

IIRC you lose NCB entitlement after 2 years if you don't use it.

A couple of ways round this would be to get a cheap group 1 car to keep the NCB live or alternate the policy holder each year on one car.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:

You could also look at getting an insurance policy with Tesco, direct line or CIS. These three (and probably more) all offer insurance policies on which named drivers also earn their own NCB. The only caveat is that if you get another car again, for the first year at least you will have to take the insurance policy with the same company to qualify for the NCB.

We were in the same situation a couple of years ago, but didn't do the above - I got some insurance quotes for my wife assuming no NCB, but the savings to be made by taking the cheapest policies outweighed the lack of NCB in less than two years. We're both in our 40s, this may work out different if you are younger.
