Selling back to the Council.

I purchased my council house about 7 years ago.
Back then it was a 3 bed mid-link. Since then we converted the loft area into 2 further bedrooms (5 bed now, in total).
I've heard that I could offer my house back to the council if they wish to buy it?
Just wondered if anyone has done this before and what sort of price they will offer as a guide?
Don't want to get into a debate about Right to Buy.
Thanks in advance.

it might be worth approaching your local housing association, as there might be a demand for proprties with 3+ bedrooms

I'm a RTB homeowner, having only bought my house 18 months ago, the neighbours the council has moved in are terrible constant antisocial and noise nuisances. So i'm looking to sell mine too and thought the best bet would be to offer back to the council or to a housinmg association. Thing is, i don't know how to approach the situation either :s

Sorry to hear about your neighbours. I believe that the councils outsource some of their rental properties to Housing Associations/charities/not for profit housing organisations/social services. Try and phone your councils Private landlord Officer in the housing dept. They might put you in touch with organisations that might help you sell. Could you rent it out??

I just spoke to my mum who has also bought her house and we both are of the belief that if the council are to buy your house from you, then they are to do it at current market value. I'm not certain, but it's what we were told by our respective RTB advisors.

Thanks for your sympathies... as it happens, i'm currently sat here with headphones on because their god-awful house music is destroying my will to live :P I have to wait until monday until the housing manager is in the office before i speak to him.

What a shame - I can really sympathise as had my earplugs in for the same reason about half an hour ago :( Now it is just a dog barking, and earplugs do nothing to stop that noise getting through. It really is soul destroying - nothing I can say to help you, just to empathise :(

    It really is, yes.

I called the noise nuisance line last night @ 10.30pm... despite 5 calls and numerous promises, by 1.30am no-one had bothered to come and assist us. This wouldn't have riled as much as it did if wasn't for the fact that the neighbours have already been served with TWO noise abatement orders and actively disregard them!

Despite me being a private owner, the council are happy to consistently drop notes through my door to tidy my front garden (admittedly, it is overgrown) but fail to do anything firm and lasting with their own problem tenants!!
