Help with cancelling Virgin Atlantic Flights - Anyone?

Hi, a brief into the predicament I'm in. I work for myself, mostly stuff on ebay, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's ok. A couple of months ago, me an the wife booked to attend ebay live in Chicago, we booked flights with Virgin via a local travel agent and a hotel with "gold medal".
Last weekend, I finally got up enough resolve to tackle the "budget planner" found here on the site, I knew it would be bad news, so I have been putting off doing it literally for years! (I know what your thinking) one of the results of this budget is that I have finally realised what a mess I am in financially, I estimated that I'm going about a £1k into debt a month!
So I'm getting my life in order, 1st thing I wanted to cancel was the expensive £3k trip to Chicago in June, only the travel agent reckons I can't cancel my flights because the "e-ticket" has been issued, we didn't even know that was the case. We are supposed to fly on 16 June, does anyone have any advice/experience with getting scheduled flights canceled?

It depends upon the fare rules for your tickets. If they are non-changeable, non-refundable ones then I don't see what you can do.This space has been intentionally left blank0

non changeable, non refundable, that will be the ones! I was hoping someone might know a way to encourage virgin to refund them.0

Sorry, they won't make an exception. You need to find out exactly what you will get back (in airport taxes and hotel refunds after cancellation charges) then make a final decision.0

Hi, there are different requirements as to whether you have a paper ticket or an eticket.

Unfortunately I can't post the link as I am new to this forum it will not let me (due to potantial spammers).
Just go to the virgin web site. Under customer relations - ticket refunds.0 -
Because you bought the ticket from a TA you need to get the refund from them:
http://virginatlantic.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/virginatlantic.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=89&p_created=1197903869&p_sid=WsoUEYKj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MzUsMzUmcF9wcm9kcz0wJnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1yZWZ1bmQ*&p_li=&p_topview=1
however if you have a non changable non refundable ticket then you have zero chance, you pay a lower price to buy these tickets compared to a refundable ticket and therefore you take the chance that if you do have to cancel then the only way to get any money back is via your travel insurance.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
If nothing else, you should be able to cancel and reclaim the tax paid on the flights. The e-ticket is issued the same day as the booking is made.I am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are S0466/3973. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it. Atol numbers can be checked with the Civil Aviation Authority.
