Sammy - have you tried just using Simple shower gel on it, my step sister uses it on her eldest, and it doesn't seem to cause any problems. I think it's reduced in Lidls or somewhere to 99p atm.
My hair is horrendous. It's very dry, curly, and frizzy, and only looks ok if I either leave it for a week (by which stage I'm paranoid it's going to start to smell!) or wash it and deep condition it every single day.
I'm seriously considering dreadlocks, except it's not long enough - one of the few benefits of it is that I can cut it myself, and it really doesn't matter if it's a bit wonky!!0 -
One of the main 'positives' of the menopause for me has been that my hair has gone from 'excessively greasy' to 'normal' - :j ! I now wash it every other day with '1 dose' of the smallest amount of Asda's Head and Shoulders equivalent and it's keeping my dandruff at bay as well. As I keep my hair short, it doesn't need as much rinsing either.

I dont know how money saving this is but if you have greasy roots you can just use talc to take off the grease and give your hair a quick brush through or blow (on a cold setting).
In poundland you can normally go one better and get cans of Batiste (dry shampoo) but I find that for me it is a little chalky.
I love toni and guys dry shampoo which I buy when T&G is on special offer in boots. Although it is £3.50 normally a can will last me a couple of months and mean that I dont have to wash my hair everyday (more like every 2/3 days). It doesnt make your hair look grey and it is very light. I wrote to t&g saying how much I loved it and they sent me products worth £15 by return post!£10 per day Challenge (Oct)

Good grief - I didn't know that they still made 'dry shampoo'! I used to use one in the 60's that was in a small 'puffer' bottle - came in very handy when I had a cold or didn't have time to wash my hair before work. But I could only use it as an emergency measure for one day and had to do a proper shampoo when I got home from work.
That brought back memories.

Apparently bicarb of soda in a jug of water is good as a shampoo for all hair types? Just rinse out and it will apparently be clean and soft? My hair is dry and frizzy too Teria so I may well try this one... for now Pantene seems to be the main shampoo and conditioner range that works for me.MFW #185

I have very thick, very curly hair and shampoo it about once a fortnight. However i wash it with conditioner every day, there are cleansing ingredients in conditioner too. My hair is in much better condition since i stopped shampooing it every other day.
Wont be thick and curly for much longer though as i'm getting it straightened on saturday:eek:The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
I decant my toner into a spritser bottle I got free with some makeup, because I like the spray, an added bonus is the toner lasts for ever.Mortgage [strike]£70,000[/strike] £1:j

Did it foam when you bought it? If so you might need to water it down more to allow it to flow through.
Yep, I watered it down, but the foaming mechanism's gone I think. The boots bottle works with the same amount of soap in it. I wonder if it's a design feature to stop you re-using bottle?0 -
Thanks Consultant31
I've just bought three Johnson Junior foam bottles, which the kids think are great, and hopefully I'll be able to reuse them. I've now put the body wash and the bubble bath in the old hand wash dispensers. My DH thinks I'm mad, 'cos I'll save pennies and everyone will get confused, but I think the bubble bath looks lovely (bright green Basics) and I'm not going to be able to save £100's in one go am I?Mortgage [strike]£70,000[/strike] £1:j

I have dry curly hair which I wash about once a week, however I do have to wet it down and use conditioner.
One way I have found to cut down on the expense is to use the budget supermarket conditioner for the rinsing down the drain bit. I then put a small amount of more expensive conditioner in the palms of my hands and then spread it through my damp hair.
Doing this, I made a bottle of Redken conditioner (a gift) last for two years!!!!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
