Has anyone mentioned scraping the paper on top of the spread in a tub?

And, at the end, trying to get every last molecule of spread out of the tub?

I usually sprinkle a little of the flour into an 'empty' marge tub when making crumble or rock buns. (The proportions are not as vital for these). Then make up the mixture with more fat. I tend to make the mix by eye!

In the olden days (when I was young) we could only buy butter and marge in paper-wrapped blocks. These weighed 8oz so you didn't need to dirty scales for 2oz or 4oz quantities - just cut off what was needed. The paper coould be saved when the fat had been used to grease pans etc. There's economy!!

Never mind the 'olden days' I still save my butter and marg papers for greasing tins, I keep them in a little plastic box in the fridge. Saves

    1. Fat
    2. Greaseproof paper

If anyone has athletes foot a simple and effective treatment is; wash and carefully dry feet and toes, soak a cotton pad in white vinegar and dab affected areas with it, air dry.
Repeat daily until cleared......and no,you wont smell like a chip shop as this goes in 5 mins:D

I tried this recently, as got athelete's foot for the 1st time in my life, but sadly it didn't do the trick for me. What seems to have worked is mixing some tea-tree oil with some aquaeous cream and rubbing this in morning and evening. Redness and sry skin patches gone after a couple of days. My foot was unbearably itchy before, but this cream mixture seems to have helped that too.

I do this too! - my mum always did it at home and I got into the habit from her.

You can make your own 'spreadable butter' by putting butter in a food processor (apparatntly a blender works as well but not tried myself) and gradually adding sunflower, veg or olive oils. When it gets to the right sort of consistancy, put it in a tub in the fridge. You'll find it has increased quite a bit in volume too, so goes further!

    girlie tip!

for a cheap but stylish bikini I buy a top to fit my cup size in plain black from an online undies site then buy several bottoms to go with it either plain black or patterned with some black in the print.you can replace the bottoms each year as they wear out(go grotty!) and the added benefit for those of us without hour glass figures is that the bikini will fit properly and a cupped top will be more comfortable and flattering :)
  • I was doing my chores on Saturday and realised how many times I was thinking 'I need to remember to post that in MSE'... :D

One of the things I haven't seen mentioned anywhere in the forums (or just haven't found the right thread yet!!) is to cut open all the cream (foundation etc) and toothpaste tubes and scrape the remains out when you can't get anything out by normal squeeze :p. Quite often you will get several days' supply this way - e.g. if you scrape the remaining cream on to an empty facial cream container, it'll stay fresh for ages - with the toothpaste I have resolved just dipping my toothbrush in and stapling the tube shut 'til the next time... :o

Also - I saved my empty fabric conditioner bottle and when I got a new bottle, I emptied half the contents to the old bottle and filled both bottles with water. The fabric conditioner I use is concentrated and if I don't dillute it, I end up using it like the unconcentrated one!

:T ...great tip - will save mine next time - unfortunately I only use one tub of marg every two months!!!

...I use a basting brush and brush the bread loaf tins with oil...use normal sunflower oil for cakes (i.e. sweet things) - olive oil is OK for bread...

Apologies if this has been already posted. You can make a nice light liquid foundation by mixing your regular one with equal parts moisturer. Much nicer for the summer months if you do need to cover your skin for any reason. Also makes your foundation last a lot longer.

:D I know what you mean. I have the Method one too, and the word 'Method' on it does bother me a bit sometimes.

Hi, newbie here so be gentle! This thread is fantastic, i've learnt so much and about to go add more water to my new handmade liquid soap! Just wanted to let the guys with the Method foaming bottles know - I've just bought one, and if the writing bothers you it's really easy to scrape off - I've just scratched mine off with my fingernail with no damage to bottle or sign writing was ever there. Presto, nice new plain bottle!

    Xx
