Sneaky ways to save the pennies

  • I colour my hair and have learned a cheap way to make the colour mix last longer. When you have done one colour save the mixing bottle and rinse it out. Next time you colour your hair only pour 1/3 or 1/2 of each solution into the old bottle and apply only to roots. This way a colour pack can last 2 or 3 uses. I've been doing this for years now.

instead of buying those 'proper' plastic food/freezer clips that are normally 8 for £1, use the small bulldog clips u can get from wilkos, 20 for 79p... they do a much better job, cheaper, and dont ping off across the room!!!

I'm only on page 18 and now my eyes have gone funny so going to add my bit now...

I invested in a pair of hairdressing scissors 2 years ago, now me, hubby and baby all visit "Salon du Mama", Hubby in return pulls my highlights through the cap for me. Haven't seen the hairdresser since.

Home made baby wipes are cheap and chemical free so good for sensitive bottoms.
Take a roll of Bounty kitchen roll it has to be Bounty as it doesn't disintegrate.
Cut in half so you have 2 toilet roll sized rolls.
    Remove the inner cardboard roll.
Put in a lidded tub (the Pampers reusable tub is good)
fill so the roll is covered with a mix of 1/3 witch hazel, 2/3 cooled boiled water, tiny squeeze of baby wash, and some essential oil, I would go for lavendar as it is antibac and gentle.
They are much better at removing stubborn poo I find!

if you have an old roof SLATE not tile hanging around not in use then take a hammer to it carefully but really powder it up...Then you will have the exact same thing as baby powder...!!!

I sincerely hope no-one has done this!

You shouldn't really use EO's on babies, even lavendar. Also, if you're going to make these, make sure you use them up within the week. adding water, even though boiled, allows the bugs a breeding ground.

    Brilliant!!

I generally follow the 3R rules (reduce, reuse, recycle) but had never thought of this.

I 've got relatively short hair so I am sure this will work for me. Thank you.
  • Loving all these great tips:D, my tips are, hope these have'nt been mentioned before! i use vaseline on my hair instead of hair wax after ive dried it, don't use to much, just a little bit and rub in yours hands and all over my hair:D(you will know if you use too much, you will look like the grungey rockers:eek:) also use any un-perfumed body lotion with my expensive perfume body lotion( it stretches the good stuff, that bit further:D) any stains on my clothes/kids clothes, that are really tough i mixed stardrops& water in a spray bottle and blitz them with that, also clean my leather suite with it, in fact i use that to clean everything:rolleyes:, test for colour fastness 1st, PLEASE DO NOT COME LOOKING FOR ME, IF YOURS GOES WRONG:whistle:.Also i use aldi nappies & wipes, & pull-ups for both my DD'S & THINK THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY FABBBBB!!! no leaks or sticky bits coming off like all the others, also charity shops & car boots are a goldmine for clothes, handbags, smellies everything!!!!!!! ive had loads of bargains, also not very pleasant, but when my little doggy does a poop:eek: i get rid of it with cheap, baby nappy bags, rather than the expensive doggy ones(she thinks shes royalty cos' there coloured, instead of black;)) hope some of these tips help, i like to think ive done my bit,for MSE:T:T:T
    • whoops!! sealed pot opened!!! for holiday stuff, £360, an i BLEW it:D
  • My favourite is too add a handful of oatmeal in the mince. It makes the mince go that little bit further.
Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money but you can't get more time
  • Here's another tip, well depends how tight you are really? when i was a kid, and all the other kids were going the chippy for chips, on a friday night, when i'd go begging for 50p for a bag, me dad used to say i'll get your "chippy chips" i'd get all excited and he'd come out with chips from our house in a brown envelope!!! probably from a bill or something it was one of the ones with the windows in were your name&address goes:o, would'nt mind but all the bl**dy kids used to ask which chippy me chips, were from:mad:, that only made him more determined, not to go the chippy. No wonder i have a weight problem now, can't wait to go the bl**dy chippy!!!!!!!!! Felt deprived for all those years!! ha ha:eek:

Instead of using loo roll, buy tesco value tissue, the one in a box not packets, about 25p. Because you only take one at a time it stops you wasting so much, one box lasted me two weeks!! xx
