If my dishwasher died it would be replaced no discussion! My kitchen was awful to keep tidy and I hate pot washing with a passion. Think its years of parental abuse re pot washing.

I use wilkos dishwasher cleaner on mine once a month and touch wood its OK at the moment it is sort of broken after it has done a cycle it goes and does a prewash for some reason. As soon as my work bonus comes in I will replace it.

I actualy find owning a dishwasher probably saves me money, I bake more and cook from scratch more as I have no fear of pots anymore. DFW is Ok but quality of life is so much better. Then again I have a small ISA that pays for any small appliances that break and once I have new ones I take out extended warranty but I am on a DMP so no credit lines.

Sale of goods act states the product must be fit for purpose for 6 years, so if anything breaks down within 6 years they have to repair it. Businesses sell extended warranties knowing full well that the product is already covered for nothing.

The dishwasher is about 7 years old. My husband took the whole thing apart yesterday, cleaned it and put it back together and it still didnt work. He took it apart more thoroughly and worked out that it was the pump not working. Being a plumber he's good at diagnosing problems. He went on line and looked up spares for it. The cost of a new pump is £80. He said its just not worth it and (although I protested) that I couldnt do without a d/w with us both working full time. He went onto a price comparison site and has already ordered a new Zanussi from John Lewis for £199. (They were the cheapest with two years extra guarantee and free delivery). So it should come within 7 working days. The old dishwasher is on its way to the tip as I write. Thanks for all your advice.

Hi just read your thread, the peebles in the tray are probably for weight to balance your dishwasher when it pumps out. Just think of the concreate wight in your washing machine.

The reason i am replying is to recomend finish dishwasher cleaner, i know it mat seem strange advocating buying something on a money saving site BUT "A stich in time saves nine" etc.
You can save money on this by buying it when its on special ie 2 for 1 as you know you will be using it.
I just use it on the first of the month on the heavy cycle and touch wood no problems wih my machine.

When we moved into our current house in Aug there was no space for a dishwasher so it's currently residing in our garage. I miss it.

But I do all of our dishes now by hand...

My flat hasn't even got space for a washing machine, I could only dream of a dishwasher! They are great though, I agree.
