Brought car from carshop and find out its ex-rental, what can I do.

I brought a car from the carshop in Northampton 21 days ago but recently I find out it was own by a rental company before which I was not told about. But the problems don't end there, I also was told that I had a Ford dealership warranty when I brought the car and thought just in case I would buy an extended warranty from carshop for when the Ford warranty ran out, but I have been down to Ford and they say that the warranty is void because the car has not been service stamped, only wrote in ONCE. I know that they knew the Ford warranty was not there because they had put on the warranty doc's that it starts on the date of purchase rather then the end of the Ford warranty like I asked. I also got a bit of paper that said it had been serviced so many times but on of them is 1 mile less after 3 months but my little brother could of probably done a better job of printing the service history out.

They also OVER filled the oil when they serviced the car.

I do not want this car no more but they refuse to refund me for the car although I am kicking off about the Ford warranty that I don't have and they can't provide me with.

Is there anyway that I can get a refund out of this?

P.S. Sorry if I posted it in the wrong place, first time posting.

I would go down to your Local Trading Standards and give them all the details and see what they have to say. They will have records of any previous dodgy dealing with this company.

Being ex-rental isn't a disclosable issue, and they haven't done anything wrong in failing to do so.

IMHO there's nothing wrong with ex-rental cars either.

The service history point is a different matter. If they said it had a FSH, and it doesn't, and that renders the manufacturer's warranty invalid, that's a material matter and I think they should allow you to return the vehicle and supply something that's actually what they claim it is.

But a FSH doesn't have to be stamped in the service book. If there's evidence that services have been carried out at the specified intervals, to manufacturer's specification, then that's sufficient.

Hi minneyx - I've moved this to the Motoring Board :)

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Being ex-rental is completely irrelevent and you have no grounds for any claim based on that.
If you purchased a warranty from Carshop, then that would be in force should there be any claim regardless of the status of the Ford Warranty. Fords warranty may be void but it doesn't mean Carshops is.
I honestly think that after 21 days, you're going to have all hell on getting a refund.

How do you know it was overfilled? Just asking because 90% of people don't know how to use a dipstick. Did you check forst tihng before the engine had been run and on a level surface and if it was over, how much was it over?

Well sorry to sink your boat, I am one of them 10% of people that know how to do it right. Also I took it to a mechanic to make sure and they said they had the same problem with the car shop.

I have been down to the car shop today and they have gave me another printed out sheet of paper that claims to have had services but they miss the major service out at 36000 and just do a oil change which vendors the Ford warranty invalid which I brought the car with the intention of having the ford warranty used until it ran out and then for the warranty supplied by the car shop to follow through after the Ford one runs out which I was told was OK at time of purchase. Then I decided to go through the paper work and realised that they hadn't done what they said they where going to do (start their warranty after Ford runs out) but instead their warranty starts at from when I brought the car. When I brought it to their attention they said its because Ford warranty wont cover me, even though Ford told me that their warranty would cover just as much as theirs would, which says to me that they knew the car was not covered by Ford warranty when I purchased the car but they told me it was. So technically they have miss sold me a car.

Also the rear washer liquid don't work, there is a burning smell that comes from the engine after driving it on the dual carriage way or motor way.

They also have a check list where they say they checked the wipers & washers which is ticked but the rear washer don't work. So how do I know they have done anything to the car.
