Hi,
I am also looking for a new PC. I have hummed and harred and so far think I will be going with a hewlett packard slimline PC. Tesco are doing this PC which has a very similar spec to the dell one for £599 + triple clubcard points. By the way the spec on the tesco website for this pc is wrong the HD is 500 GB and there is a tv Tuner included.
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.203-9738.aspx
Alternatively Laskys do a similar PC for £420 + quidco and ebuyer do a decent 20" samsung monitor for £169
http://www.laskys.com/pcs_and_laptops/pcs_and_apple_desktops/pcs/hp_s3350uk.html
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/125098
This is a highly rated PC that can be upgraded in a limited way it has an AMD dual core processor which apparently are very good.
Hope this help.0 -

What do you want to do with it? If it's only internet, email and a few photos you don't need to spend that much. If youw ant to pkay the latest games at high detail the grpahics card isn't great. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
The main question is what do you want to do with it. As a previous poster said, if it's just Internet and writing some documents, you don't even need a new computer. I'm running a Pentium 3, 733mhz, probably 8 years old which is fine for my Internet and documents, and writing the odd program. There are people on Freecycle giving away such computers now and then. Or you may know somebody having an office clearout.
And there's a wealth of free software available. https://www.openoffice.org provides a viable alternative to MS Office, and is totally free. Please use OpenDocument (ISO 26300) format (.odt - .ods - .odp - .odg) for attachments0 -
As mentioned a 2nd user unit would save you alot of money, have a read of "Micro Mart" in the newsagents there are ads in there with refurbished Pentium 4's for less that £50.The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

Just be wary of slim cases, if you want to upgrade say the graphics in the future it may be a problem.0

My local Tesco has just upgraded its top floor to electrical /computing .
I notice some computers are already getting money off stickers . presume to clear for a newer model . The Median range that many stores sell have recieved good reliability and customer service awards in some of the computing mags .
The computer market is moving to off the shelf units in places like Tesco etc .
If you do find an online spec machine to same spec in the shops Currys etc its worth printing off and asking will they price match .
Also take a look at Quidco .
You do not have to buy as a complete unit but can but the machine in one place screen in another .
