Thanks, Ploppy
The difference in price between 1GB and 2GB modules of ram means it is better to buy 2GB, and it does make a difference to performance.
Windows x32 can only utilise 3.5GB so as I see it, 3GB of ram is the most efficient compromise, the 9912 ran OK on 1GB ram, but for multi-tasking and memory intensive programs like Photoshop the more ram the better. It flies with 3GB ram.====0 -
d123. Thanks very much for your reply. I had not realised that the maximum ram for the 9912 was 4gb, I thought it was limited to 2gb maximum. I think I shall go ahead and buy one now.0

I bought a refurb from Dell a few years back, it's still going strong even though the battery is now dead and the mains lead needs blutac to hold it in, I wouldn't buy a new laptop unless I was flush, it's like buying a new car, drive off and you lose 30%.There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0

Quick update on the refurb laptop.
The Advent one I bought had a dodgy pixel so I ordered a Toshiba to replace it. It's absolutely cracking. Great screen, nice and quiet and super fast.
Think I'll be recommending refurb deals from now on.Save £6k in 2015 - Jan £5000 -

Yes, they are a silly spammer, for starters that d630 is for sale on a site that does not sell to the UK.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
