Last year I kept getting red payment reminders from British Gas before I had even received a bill. I phoned and complained and they said they would sort it out.
Well. I haven't had any more red reminders - in fact no bills either - just a letter from firm of debt collectors in Glasgow !!!
British Gas, you are absolutely useless - I had actually set the wheels in motion to go elsewhere before this latest c**k up - good-bye.

agree with you - we got a letter from a DCA looking for £1500, turns out it is their mistake as they took an estimate over from an old billing system in dec 06 to a new one and had estimated our bills.
Bearing in mind they cancelled our DD during that time and did not re-instate it despite 4 calls and 4 times handing over DD instructions.
To top it all off.
15 calls in two weeks and they cannot still resovle it.
Muppets.
If someone has a contact number of a director or Operations Manager pls PM me or post it here?

I'm with Scottish Power - and they do attentpt to get it right, but I always end up paying too much each month.
On the plus side, I was shocked when I got a bill saying I was in credit in excess of £550 and they sent me a cheque! I'd rather not pay too much each month and save another way to be honest, but I thought they acted vaguely promptly and I hadn't even queried it for awhile....
On the plus side again - this enabled me to pay for my car insurance in one go - which I got a whole £200 cheaper than my renewal price. BonzerGenie

I used to work for British Gas, but not in the Gas Retail part of the business, however I met the Chief Executive of Centrica ( the parent company ), he spent about half an hour chatting to me and one thing I gathered is that he will make sure things get sorted if he knows about them. So I would recommend dropping him an email. I cannot confirm his email address but following the convention used in the rest of the company it would be sam.laidlaw@centrica.com
Good LuckThe only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

My Uncle had a bill before christmas for almost £9,000. He knew it couldnt be correct but BG were useless about it. After several missed appointments by them to check his meter he went to the CAB.
All in all it took until the beginning of March to resolve, you can imagine the stress it caused the poor man. Turned out the meter was a combination of faulty and hadn't been read (yet statements claimed it had). The result? BG actually owed him £2,000!
Unsurprisingly he is in the process of leaving...0 -
We used to live in an all electric house. No gas supply from new, (we had it built that way) and the supply stopped about 30ft from the property.
However that didn't stop British gas sending bills, then red bills, then letters threatening action. It wasn't until the touchy feely "are you having problems paying" lady called at the house that the problem went away;
"Are you having problems paying the bill?"
"No, but I shouldn't have to pay it."
"Oh? Why do you think you don't have to pay your gas bill when everyone else does?"
"Because we don't have gas."
The look on her face was priceless.0
