The Council and my dustbin

Options
To supposedly save the environment, our council have decided to only empty our dustbins once every two weeks, with recyclable material being collected on the other weeks.

Our dustbin day is Monday. As this was a bank holiday, the dustmen did not work. Logic states that the bin may be emptied on Tuesday, but this is not the case - it will not be emptied again until the next scheduled Monday, meaning the bin will not be emptied for 4 whole weeks.

When I have pointed this out to the council, their response was "that I should not throw so much stuff away". I would challenge them to find any family down our road that is able to cram one month of rubbish into a bin. Moreover, if the lid does not shut, the bin will not get emptied.

And all this a couple of weeks after receiving a letter telling me my council tax is now over £2000 a year.

I guess that we will have to resort to burning our rubbish again (plastics, polystyrene etc all goes well) which is really green, but what is the option - fill my car up with stinking rubbish and sit in a queue at the dump for over an hour? Leave a pile of festering rubbish on my driveway for the cats, foxes and eventually rats to pick through?

Our Dustbin men worked on Monday - the only days they do not work here are Christmas Day and New Years Day.

I think council are being unreasonable here. Our council collectes the next day so if Its Monday and bank holiday it will be Tuesday etc accept maybe Christmas it might be another day or so.

I dont understand some councils logic about not emptying overflowing bins. Okay they could be a Health and Safety problem, however if a bin is full, then surely its because

    1. Taken longer to empty than normal due to bank holidays
    2. The customer has a unsuitable sized bin for the amount of people living there

By not emptying a bin because its overflowing or because of a bank holiday, how is that going to help the customer and more importantly its a health issue

Most people chuck away too much stuff. Since paying proper attention to recycling I've got my personal rubbish down to half a small bin bag per week. I wash bottles, cans, plastic bottles and store them separately, along with cardboard and paper, and bits of metal. I then take it to the tip every few weeks and put it in the correct recycling areas.

Well a green bin (non recycling bin) is emptied every 2 weeks where I live Blue bin (recycling) the other week. We manage with a family of four both bins are about 90% full by then not overflowing. I also take some things to the tip every now or then as it wouldn't fit in the bin, like wood, large boxes and green refuse.

Unfortunately although we manage I understand others may not, everyone is different and many consume more than others etc

I think by leaving bins overflowing because of too much refuse or because of council policy of not emptying if its full or due to bank holidays can only make matters worse

I live in a large town and we do have foxes in the area I see them regularly even saw there foots prints the other day in snow outside the backdoor. Also there the obvious rats and fliers in Spring/Summer

Perhaps you are a closet refuse collector or just missed your calling has a binman, I chose a different career, had I wanted to play with Sh*t I would been a sewage worker.
