I've been getting letters with special offers from Scotrail ever since this fiasco began, today another one landed on the mat & I almost binned it unopened. I'm very glad I didn't, because it was a letter that read ...
'Thank you for your contact with First Scotrail and I apologise for the delay in responding to your refund request.
I am happy to enclose a cheque to the value of £43.00 for the inconvenience we have caused you.'
I thought at first it was a mistake, but from the wording of the letter they're clearly refunding all of my fare as a goodwill gesture
it wasn't a great deal of money, but I'm currently unemployed, so it was a lot to me & was very lucky I didn't end up with bank charges for a rejected debit
anyway, very happy ending now, free trip to London & a tenner into the bargain
