consequences of moving abroad after BR ?

  • Not co-operating with the OR can be a variety of things, from not answering letters, not responding to phone calls, not sending them info they're requested, not attending personal interviews, not completing forms. Basically, not co-operating is not doing things that enable them to bring your assessment to a conclusion without a reasonable excuse.

If you're going abroad, I advise getting your court hearing & your OR interview out of the way first. As soon as you know your moving date, let the OR know it so that they know they've got to complete as much of your assessment as possible before you leave. Then ensure that the OR has your full new address, any telephone numbers for you (I doubt that they'd accept you giving someone else's number, since they'll need to speak to you directly), & your e-mail address. Confirm with the OR that they've got everything they need from you before you go. :)

So, I can actually apply for credit etc when Im over there?! Not that I intend to at all, woah - never again!
PS - you may have got us mixed up - Im going to Mainland spain - does that make a difference?

I just hope that my OR doesnt send through an IPA before she recives my letter that im going. One thing I really dont want to do is waste any of their time - my office seems real busy, and wouldnt want to get on wrong side of them!!

Truth to tell, you COULD even apply for credit, in the UK, but you would have to declare your UK Bankruptcy to a UK Creditor, whereas you would not need to, in Spain. Whether you actually GOT credit would, as ever, depend on the creditor.

    No difference at all.

Any IPA/IPO would be imposed, based on your Income/Expenditure, and can be re-assessed during the 3 year IPA/IPO period. This means that, if you were in Spain, but with less disposable income, then your IPA/IPO payment could go down. You are obliged to inform the OR/Trustee of any change in your income, within 21 days of the change.

  • Have spent hours tonight trying to post a reply and say a big thank you to everyone who replied to me. Have typed a long eloquent (ha) witty piece twice now and both times it has disappeared into a black hole.

Hence the briefness of this one, if it actually posts will try again tomorrow if I can remember what I wanted to say.

Mostly thanks and that finding this site has saved my sanity ! (debatable)

Humble if you are doing a long post when you have finished do a C&P. If the site thinks you are inactive for a while then it logs you out. I have had it happen a number of times to me and it's very frustrating.

Glad you found the advice posted to be useful.

  • Tried again last night and logged me out, soooo frustrating. Thanks for the tip Tigerfeet and at least I had printed it. Will now attempt in 3 or 4 posts so please bear with me.How does anyone ever manage a diary on here ???

    Part 1

Just wanted to say a really big thank you to everyone on the site and all those who have taken the time to reply to my post. This site has restored my sanity and sense of humour and reduced my stress levels. One of the toughest parts of all this has been feeling very alone in this situation, angry with myself for getting to this position, stressed out, sleepless, ashamed etc etc You all know because you have visited most of this yourselves and it helps so much to know that this is a Club with quite a lot of members ! It's a Club that I know that none of us would have chosen to join but here we are, supporting each other and getting through it and more importantly with a lot of humour, warmth and goodwill.

Still have to make the decision as to actual date for BR (May or June) but decision made as to going ahead and doing it. I was advised by CCs in October to go this route but thought I could sell the house, rent for a while and get on top of things. Clearly didn't expect the situation with Northern rock and the housing market to collapse etc.. but no viewers in 6 months should have been a strong indication. Was pleasant with my head in the sand there for a while.

Maybe it should be Mr Applegarth who is hanging his head in shame, although with his £38,000 a month salary and 2.2 million pension to look forward to, he probably won't be guest appearing on this site anytime soon. Can't believe that they can get away with not renewing current mortgage customers deals when they run out, where on earth is someone with a 100%+ mortgage going to go when there is nothing out there for them? I suspect that the BR Club will not be quite so exclusive as the year goes on.
  • Part 3

This is the first month that I have not paid the mortgage to NR and they are already on the phone constantly and writing to me. It will almost be a pleasure to return the keys to them. Just one question (lots more to follow) the monthly direct debit has the insurance payment, the secured mortgage and an unsecured payment all rolled into one huge payment. I have cancelled the DD but how on earth do I pay the insurance bit as don't want to be uninsured until I go BR. With my luck am bound to come unstuck. Any suggestions ??

As well as thanks to all also wanted to say Good Luck to Leicestercat and hope all goes well and you find a job quickly, make loads of friends and enjoy the sun. Don't know what line of work you are in but you could try job searching online in Spain and sending your cv ahead.

Maxmycardagain of course you can come with me, your fluent spanish will be a huge asset out there, although both of us being BR may not. Do think you should go ahead with it now after reading your posts.

Will leave you with this thought which is my mantra of the moment when times get really tough, usually 8am each day when the first calls start.

'The Brave may not live for ever but the Cautious do not live at all '

If you can spot the film that quote is from you get extra brownie points. Good luck to everyone who is contemplating BR and all those about to go through it. X

Just take out separate insurance. Try www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (are links banned?!?!? it's !!!!!!!!!) I got £250,000 buildings, £45,000 contents, all risks for £180 per year. You can also pay in instalments over 12 months if you wish.

HTH and good luck mate! I did what you did in the early 90's and no regrets!
