Laptop memory advice please

Hello everyone

I have a 5 year old EI System laptop with 256 mb memory. I need more memory for drawing programmes etc.

Should I get a 512 memory card or an external hard drive? or another laptop? (the latter is a distant option as I'm a full time student at the moment)

All opinions gratefully received- thanks

I'd get at least another 512mb of ram, there will be a spare Ram slot on the laptop

    systems scanner here

    http://www.crucial.com/uk/?gclid=CKDB6ojLsJICFQdRMAodDzw79A

will tell you the type pf ram you need, or choose from the drop down menus

will also tell you the maximum you can put in the laptop

if it only says 512 then I would look at another NEW laptop

    thanks for replies.
i want more memory for space.
i bought another 256 card but it seems theres only one slot (ive had it open but only after buying the new card) so i was thinking of buying a 512 card instead. crucial says i can have 2048 ram

so get 512 and be able to fit more programmes on?

space to save files requires a new hard disk, ram won't help apart from to speed the pc up.

there may be a slot under the keyboard, the crucial scanner should tell you.

or buy a bigger laptop drive. How much space is left?

Have a cleanup, turn off system restore, turn it on again. run https://www.ccleaner.com

(untick the install yahoo toolbar on installation, and untick *.log cleanup when you run it)
