Credit card following bankruptcy

Help please.
I made myself bankrupt in March 2006, then discharged in December 2006....what an experience, one I wouldn't want to and will not go through again.
Again since I have now been discharged I do want to re build my credit rating (what an uphill struggle that will be). I have applied for a capital one card, designed for people who have bad credit history. (APR is approx 39%) I just wanted to put my petrol cost on it each month then pay it off in full. I have been refused! Can't believe it, why is this? When I have been discharged?
Any ideas?
Louise

Your credit files will show you bankrupt for 6 years. The fact that you are now discharged does not change this - I think you have a long wait before you get any credit.0

It will take a while before you are even likely to get some of the forms of credit meant for people with a rock bottom credit rating.
While you are waiting for time to do a bit of healing, it's a good idea to make sure that your Credit Reference Files have been correctly updated by your former creditors.
