British Summer Time

The clocks go forward to BST at 2am last Sunday in March and back again to GMT 2am last Sunday in October. I think what's confused lots this year (including me!) is the dead early easter.
I can remember the years the clocks stayed forward at British Standard Time. '68 to '72 I think. During winter it was very dark going to school in morning and not a lot different when coming home. Cat's right-it was the number of kids knocked down going to/coming from school that killed it off.
If I remember the farming angle for changing the clocks is right but to give all of them more daylight for the war effort during WW1.:rotfl:0 -
didn't they do "double summer time" during the war to make it light until about 11 pm something to do with the black out.........it was well before my time but i'm sure i heard it in a history lesson at school

Yup, From Wikipedia
During World War II, Britain retained the hour's advance on GMT at the start of the winter of 1940 and continued to advance the clocks by an extra hour during the summers until the end of the summer of 1944. During these summers Britain was thus 2 hours ahead of GMT and operating on British Double Summer Time (BDST). The clocks were not advanced for the summer of 1945 and were reverted to GMT at the end of the summer of 1945. In 1947 the clocks were advanced by one hour twice during the spring and put back twice during the autumn so that Britain was on BDST during the height of the summer......0 -

I think the change is pointless. Leave the bloomin' clocks alone and change the time that you do things.
There is no valid argument for altering the clocks.

Ahhh...this takes me back....BST always seemed to change when I was in a nightclub so I didn't really notice if you know what I mean....they just chucked us out when they wanted to and I kind of muddled through the next morning until I remembered.
Of course, moneysavers don't go near nightclubs do they? Imagine....paying to go somewhere AND having to pay extra for drinks....I'd need stretchering out and not through overdoing it!For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070
