painting and decorating

OK, a work mate has offered to:

Strip and wallpaper front room, strip and replace skirting, paint ceiling [23'7 x 11'10] (7.19m x 3.61m)

Strip and wallpaper bedroom 1, strip and replace skirting, paint ceiling [12' 9 x 10' 4] (3.89m x 3.15m)

Paint ceiling and walls bedroom 2 & 3 [9' 1 x 10' 0] (2.77m x 3.05m) & [9'10x 7'8] (3 x 2.34)

Repaint reception hall

Now i've never seen his work and he is not a painter and decorator by trade, although he has a City & Guilds in painting and decorating and dabbles occasionaly.

He has offered to do all this, we supply the wallpaper & paint, he supplies everything else and will do it for £500.

Any thoughts?

Corr!!! thats ever so cheap, if you have seen his previous work, and are happy with it, then go for it.
But he is far too cheap, so makes me wonder why he is charging this price, it could be its mates rates, or he hasnt a lot of work on.

Cheers for the reply Misgrace. One question though, if we got a professional in to this any idea what they would charge?

(and yes, it is mates rates).

I couldnt reply as service went down.

You dont say if woodwork is being painted, ie doors, skirtings, frames etc.

He is doing a hell of a lot tbh for that price, the actual papering side of it takes the time, especially if he is using a vnyl paper with a pattern, but taking it all as you have described, for a professional you are looking at anything between £1300 -£1600, but thats at a guess without seeing it, and of course whether there is woodwork involved to be painted.
