Are there any general recommendations on balanced portfolios??

I can't find the site I read about this before but it suggested a specific set of sectors for the best type of balanced portfolio.

Does anyone know off the top of their head on how it's generally done - Oil Companys, Banks(!!) and so on to get the best sector balance?

thanks in advance

There are guys and girls on these forum's way more qualified than I to answer this one, but here goes!
From the research I have done Its all about diversification. Without naming specific stocks, the main focus of your portfolio should be based around those you mentioned, maybe utilities and, as recommended to me, investment trusts. Again, with the trusts don't double up on specific things,. for example, my IT's focus on long term global growth and the other on an Asian specific market. My other's are major blue chip companies with a couple of researched 'tiddlers' along for the ride in the hope of a big gain.
Hope this helps, but it would be good to get other peoples opinions also!

yeah I thought it'd be worth asking. I want to plan which sectors and companiess to research next and wanted some idea of which sectors are judged to be the main ones.

I'm basically after the specific sectors purely for company research.
