Split tickets for flights?

Hello!

I am trying book a flight from London (any airport) to Sardinia (preferably Cagliari) on the week of May 24-June 01 (these are our ideal dates). We can sacrafice a day or more off the start of of our trip, but must fly back after 3pm on Sunday 01 June.

I have found the cheapest way would be booking 4 seperate flights, LON-Bergamo-Cagliari, same on the way back, directly with Ryan air. Both ways have plently of stop over time.

Apart from the increased baggage/check in charges, is there any other reason why people might not look at this type of plan? As long as we arrive in time to check in 2 hours before our flight back to London on 01 June, I dont see any problem myself but I have never attempted this type of ticket plan either!

Thoughts on these kind of tickets, (and ideas on cheapest way to get to Sardinia for this week!) appreciated!!!

Thanks,

gg

It seems an expensive week you can go for £83 easyjet lut-calgiari if you go a few days later?

You could have also gone stsd to alghero and driven down we have done that and it is fairly easy but alghero flights that normally cost about £10 for some reason are 169?? one way .

Yes it can be done but odn't forget you will probably have to pick your bags up after each flight and re-check in.

We did it last year on our way to South Africa when we flew DSA-AMS-LHR-CPT, admittedly not all on same airline. This year we are off to Costa Rica and are flying internally and we are doing the same as according to the website there was no flights between 2 towns but when i made 2 seperate bookings for 2 seperate flights with a change over in SJO there was.

Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI

The main snag is that if anything goes wrong (flight delayed, cancelled, timings changed) you've lost the lot. If it all works out (and the chances are it will), then fine. But you are on your own if it doesn't.

As Dzug says if the flights are not official connections then you are !!!!!!ed if a problem arises.

So long as your travel insurance covers the risk of missed connections then there shouldn't be a problem reclaiming if you need to rebook due to a flight delay.

Sorry, but I have never found an insurance policy that covers this kind of risk. Typically, they would receive a maximum of thirty pounds for flight delay, which would nowhere near cover the potential loss.

If you can post details of an insurance policy that does give this kind of cover, I would be extremely grateful: and I think many others would also appreciate the info.

The insurance I was referring to is missed connection insurance, it is a slightly unusal cover to take on a travel insurance policy but can be found.
Do please look in detail at the policy to assure yourself that it is appropriate for the need and level of risk perceived.

The low limit generally applies to Missed Departure insurance which is something slightly different.
