I live in the sticks in Wiltshire in various towns about 15 -20 miles away the diesel is cheaper due to the supermarkets keeping prices down the difference is about 5p per liter . So if i drive to swindon for a 7p saving abiut a 40 mile round trip would I be saving any money . I drive a kia seddona 2.9 cdri which for various reasons i'm stuck with

How much fuel do you put in at a fill up?
The more you put in the greater the chance of a saving.0 -

I did a quick calculation based on my Peugeot 405 diesel.
Fill up at 700 miles. 55 mpg. £1.10 per litre local. £1.15 per litre at 20 miles distant.
Fuel cost for local = £66.52 for 700 miles = 9.5p per mile.
Fuel cost for distant = £ 63.64 for 660 miles (700 less the 40 'non-productive miles) = 9.65p per mile.
So for me = not worth doing.0 -
same calc for my RX-8.
300 miles. 25mpg. prices 1.06 and 1.11.
Local 20.2p per mile. Distant 22.2p per mile.
As your vehicle probably falls somewhere between these then the answer is it won't save you money. only chance is if your tank is very large (Peugeot is 65 litres but calc based on putting 57.85 litres in)0 -
Our cheapest is about 12 miles away and just try and judge it so that when passing I get a full tank.0

If you're not filling the tank from empty (or near) then the calculation is even further against you for a drive to fill up.0 -
I just realised (from old receipts) that a fill up of diesel costs me about £12-£15 more than 12mths ago0
