This is MRS Mc's recipe that has been posted alot.
CHEWY SOFT FLOUR TORTILLA
2 CUPS PLAIN FLOUR about 240g
1 ½ TSP BAKING POWDER
1TSP SALT
2TSP VEG OIL
¾ CUP WARM MILK -180ml
Sift flour and baking powder into a bowl
Whisk milk, oil and salt
Pour into flour -stirring to mix
Once mixed -turned out onto a lightly floured worktop and knead for 2 mins
Cover and leave for 15 mins -it won’t rise but needs to relax
Cut into 8 balls (approx 50g each)
Cover and leave to relax for 10 mins
Roll each one out into a round -approx 8”
Heat a heavy frying pan (preferably cast iron)
Drop in one tortilla and turn after about 2 mins -the surface should bubble -press down with a teatowel (watch you don't steam your fingers )
Place inside a dry tea towel to keep warm whilst you cook the rest
You can freeze the balls of dough -but they will be a little stickier once defrosted -but as a bonus they roll out bigger too'Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle'0 -
Hello all & happy snowy Sunday
I have been building snowmen & a snow turtle (don't ask!!) on the beach today - glorious!
Just popped in to say what a fantastic inspiration this challenge is. I usually haemorrhage money on food without even thinking, but I am slowly changing my ways. I had 3 NSDs during the week, & spent a little over what I intended this weekend as had OH staying over, but have more than enough food in the form of leftovers & freezer stuff to last me a good while.
I'm currently making a lemon & thyme roast chicken with sage roasted potatoes & will use leftover chicken in tomorrow's dinner, a lunch box & then make soup with the carcass.
I'm really enjoying this challenge :TProud to be a moneysaver0 -
The snow seems to be over here in South-East London. I have just had a clear moment of fail, I went to the co-op and spent £25 and I have no idea what I actually bought for it, apart from a loaf of bread, hummous, pasta sauce (lazy, but it was 2 for 1), and three cartons of orange juice. Oh well! Jacket potato, yorkshire pudding, peas and sweetcorn for tea.
Oh, so I bought potatoes, eggs, soya milk, ok, this is getting a bit more respectable. On the plus side, I got bored yesterday and counted up my change jar and have £22 to put in the bank tomorrow, so that pays for my shopping, sort of!Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!0 -
Been to Mr T this afternoon and picked up two lots of Welsh leeks (I think there were 5 or 6 in the pack) for 75p, and a pack of 3 organic courgettes for 75p, and a whole black pudding ring for 35p which will be cut up and frozen (DH loves it).
Did have to go back in and ask customer services to refund me 84p for an avocado I didn't even buy:mad: . Good job I'd checked the receipt before we got too far home (bless DH for turning the car around :A )
This is the second day I've had a problem. Yesterday I popped into Somerfield for some their offers. Bought a whole chicken that had been reduced to £2.65. Checked my receipt when I got home only to find I'd been charged full price  . Thank goodness I only live across the road from the supermarket! I returned armed with chicken and receipt to get my refund .
Don't think I venture out shopping tomorrow :rolleyes:MFiT-T2 No.350 -
I haven't posted before this month because I've only just caught up with the receipts! I discovered more for last month too, so March came in well over budget again. So far I'm doing OK with April, and we have loads in. I will probably just need to keep topped up with milk and fruit and veg and some more bread flour. Other than that I'm going to just use what we have.
Does anybody else make meals to go in the freezer, then not want to use them up?0 -
afternoon all
well i bravely trekked to mr t in the snow this morning - mainly becuase OH had to have a pineapple upside down cake after dinner
actually have to say its just come out of the oven and smells DELISH! first time i've made it myself, usually mum's speciality, so if the recipe is any good i will post it in a while
just had roast beef, coriander pesto roast potatoes, baby carrots (bargain at half price in mr t) yorky puds and gravy
i'm stuffed but that cake smells soooooooooooooooooooooo good!!
then i'm gonna be stewing my rhubarb and sticking it in a crumble to put in the fridge for tomorrow - if i don't cook the rhubarb today i think it will go off  and then DS wants to make some biscuits so it will be my first attempt at twinks hobnobs
hope ur all having a good weekend!Disneyworld Florida in August 2011 :jLost so far: 0 lbs of 4stMother of beautiful son with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy0 -
Well, popped into inlaws house last night and picked up bacon, sausages (for brekkie) and half shoulder of lamb for lunch. Lamb has been cooked in SC this morning.
Like Toni I have cooked up rhubarb that was looking a bit sad in the fridge and have made a crumble top as its my OH's favourite and a treat for all the hard work he has done this week on the house makeover.
Am just about to start my meals plans with remaining freezer contents. From that, I can work out what shopping I need.
Am guessing this week I will need to pick up:
Potatoes
Mushrooms
Greens of some sort
Eggs
Milk
I spent another £9.36 at the local shop yesterday as I had run out of coffee, and needed some lunch stuff.
I have got lots of storecupboard ingredients to use up before the house move though! Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Spent £15 at the butcher's and £30 on cleaning stuff/water filters etc at the hardware store yesterday. Oh, and a fiver today on a few basics from the corner shop. So, that leaves me with £50 for the rest of the month. No idea how on earth I'm going to achieve that - and I'm only spending on stuff for myself. Quite how anyone manages to feed an entire family for a month on £100 is beyond me!0

I'm so hanging my head in shame - I spent £11.83 at Tescos on Friday then another whopping £78.56 last night. And what did I have for tea - a steak pie from the freezer then apple crumble made from the stewing apples earlier in the week. Should only have to buy bread and milk during the week though. So little money - so much time :mad:0
