Arkonite, how about bulking out HM burgers with them? I only say this as I saw the burgers I want to make need breadcrumbs, I'm sure one of the proper cooks will have a great idea for them
Nyk, I know what you mean by a loss leader, but how do you find them IYSWIM?
I try to do the same, best advice I could say is use www.mysupermarket.co.uk and look at all the offers only in each department, compile a shopping list of those as normal, but do it in all the shops you can go to.
I have also signed up for the email newsletters from the other supermarkets and from the Euro counterparts, which we have here in UK.
Then you just shop for thos items on the offers lists, hopefully getting enough to last until the next shop has the same thing on offer.
Hope that explains it.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

thanks for this nyk, I do use the store brands, was just thinking of converting to the basics versions....I'll give it a go....is there any difference in taste? or it's cooking needs (does it hold a lot of water, anything else, etc)?
Thanks
Clair - I use Tesco Value basmati rice and spaghetti. I've also used Sainsburys basics lasagne. I have found no difference at all. I will be sticking to the value/basic range.0 -

Scotsaver Happy Birthday :bdaycake:
Bails, my 10kg bag of rice is still living in my kitchen on the work surface ('cos I still can't fit it into the cupboards), it's keeping well and at this rate may even have its own birthday party later in the year.

This week it had to be tinned curry sauce at 5p/tin, shower gel at 10p/bottle and bubble bath at 20p/litre. The shower gel and bubble bath can be rebottled along with some homegrown rosemary or lavender.
don't be keeping it to yourself now, you have to share!!

Oh Dear
Just updated my spending diary and already £162.03 with another week to go. I had a spell when I lost the plot and now am back on track but too late for this month. I have enough meals till about Monday so wont have to spend much but still over budget. One good thing, we have booked a half price holiday to Lake Garda for May and I paid for it with cash I had saved in a holiday account, I also have my spending money in there as well. Also on my second sealed savings tin and have money in christmas account so I must be doing something right. Just planted loads of veggies on our new allotment so should have lots of savings on that later on
Best of luck to everyone, those under budget and those over.
Best of luck to everyone.0
