  • Count me in please! I'm aiming for no more than £250 this month and I am going to stick to it! Thats to feed four of us for the month.

I've never been able to manage it before (always go WAY over budget) but new financial year- new leaf!

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Well, I'm really pleased - last shop for March today - £42. That means I'm ever-so slightly over budget - but DS and family stayed for a week and when I set the budget I didn't even know they were coming!
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!

    Mr DT,

Your bacon casorole recipie looks luurvely! When you say "cooking bacon" I have a smoked bacon joint in my fridge that I would normally boil and have as boiled bacon and veg, could this be used? am i being dumb?!![/quote
I think the idea of cooking bacon is because it,s cheaper.I wouldnt spoil a lovely joint... unless you really want to.;)

any room left for an ickle one?? :D i`d like to join in pretttttty please, theres 3 of us and a big rottweiler and i think i`d like to set my target at £150. i know its a low amount and my 15 year old lad eats for england but i think its doable. my month goes from 22nd - 22nd and i have already done a huge £90 shop which should last me ages providing that i am good and stretch my meals and do baking all month and water down the milk a bit ;)
i need to save a few quid from my grocery budget as mr angchris has now decided on an all inclusive honeymoon to the maldives instead of the cheaper honeymoon options i was looking at  still we have plenty of time to save as we haven`t even set a date yet but an extra £100 a month to stash away will be fabby :j :j
i have £25 in supermarket vouchers so that will really help out this month...do i include them in my budget
proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance! :p
Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money

  • Other spanner is that baby is due next week . We've stocked the second freezer up with whoopsed ready meals coz I don't reckon I'm gonna be in any fit state to cook!! :rotfl:

I'm planning on doing the same when jellybean arrives, if i manage to come under budget this month i'll put that money to one side and do the same for May and June and then just before i go into hosp i'll use the money to go and stock up on some whoopsied ready meals to add to what i'll have already batch cooked. I'm aiming for at least 2 weeks worth of main meals that can just be heated up and served to allow me to get back on my feet (c-section). OH says he'll do the cooking whilst i'm recovering but i think scrambled eggs on toast will get a bit tedious after the first week lol :rotfl:

Good luck with the bubba :)

    :hello: Hi everyone

I've done my weekly shop - £12.94 on F&V in Lidl and £52.60 in Mr T's making a total of £65.54. Before i went i wrote a meal plan, a shopping list and a note of the prices of F&V in mr T's so i could compare when i was in Lidl. Worked out i saved £3.56 by buying F&V in Lidl :T not a massive saving but 'every little helps' ;) ha! I think i have bought too much though as the fridge is jam packed :o i have done another meal plan and have found ways to strech it even further! I think i am starting to get the hang of it now :D

Roped in DS earlier to make some pastry for a quiche for tonights tea as he recently made one in home ec. class in school which was really good. I asked him to double up the recipe as i wanted to make one for tonight and one for lunch tommorow. He managed to quadruple the marg by mistake  so we had to add loads more flour to compensate, i now have 3 quiches, 4 jam & coconut tarts  and a wild mess to clear up as DS has deserted me now and gone out to a digger convention  (wot's that all about?) with my brother & my 4 year old nephew. Probably bob the builder or sommat!!!!!

Just about to bung all the pastry things in the oven so they had ALL better turn out ok. I always have a disaster with pastry :o so fingers crossed!

Oh, i also have a gammon joint in the slow cooker but it is for tommorow's dinner. Am thinking the water left in the SC will make nice lentil soup once the joint of meat is taken out.

    My meal plan for the week is as follows;

Sat - HM quiche (hopefully) HM coleslaw, salad & crusty bread
HM jam tarty things for pud
Sun - Gammon, roast potatoes, veggies, gravy & choc trifle for pud
Mon - Gammon if any left over or HM fishcakes, HM coleslaw & salad
Tue - HM curried parsnip soup & rice pudding made in SC for pud
Wed - HM meatballs & spagetti
    thus - HM pasta bolognaise
Fri - HM mac 'N cheese N garlic bread (shop bought :o )

I also have stuff to make some blueberry muffins and might manage a few minced beef & veggie pasties for lunch with some of the mince later in the week.

It sounds like an awful lot of food, am going to HAVE to get a freezer i think!! Am sure i could get two weeks of meals out of that lot! Might hijack my SIL's freezer and make a stash for a few weeks as she just stays down the road ;)
She would definately think i had gone off my head though :rotfl:

Off to update my sig while i remember, have a reciept from earlier in the week to add too.

    Fi

Edited to say: OH wont be getting any of my rather yummy menu as i had left a pile of items at the bottom of the stairs and he selfishly picked out his own 1 item (a tie) took it up the stairs and left the rest for me to take  said i was only going to make my side of the bed & cook only my meals  see how he likes it!

Will def make it last two weeks now :D
