Norwich Union Systems down

Hi!

Getting a new car tonight, been getting lots of quotes and Norwich Union were the cheapest by about £150.
Just went through the whole buying screen, putting my 0% credit card as deposit and my current account details for the 11 x monthly direct debit (would have rather paid it all on my CC but my available limit is just slightly under what I need :rolleyes: )

Then I got an error "page not found" screen so have no idea whether my payment has been taken or not, tried to log back into my quote but it won't requote me and says they are unable to quote online at the moment.

Arranged a ringback which was within 5 minutes so not bad, but I couldn't really understand the womans accent, the jist seems to be, they are having problems accepting instalment payments, but she can't even tell me if my deposit payment has been taken from my credit card cos she can't access the system. She said she will ring again once it's up and running but has no idea when it will be.

It's very frustrating as I need the cover today and it's also made me concerned about what happens if I need to get in touch with them about something if I need to claim etc, if their systems are always down it's going to make it difficult.

Anyway just a warning for anyone else looking to buy car insurance at the moment, you may get some problems buying the policy.

    their systems aren't 'always down'!!!! it's just bad timing, that's all!!

    I do apologise that the timing is so bad for yourself. As tinkerbell says, this isn't the norm, I have just spoken to a colleague in the call centre who has confirmed that they are having system issues with taking deposit by card.     Hi.
    Thanks, think I am sorted now.
    However we were getting the car at 4.30pm last night and when the system was still down when I tried to pay earlier on I was told I was covered but they were unable to take my deposit payment, I was given a policy number and told if I was stopped by police to give that and the representatives extension number and it would be fine, and in the meantime he would keep trying to process payment and call me on my mobile. We collected the car as arranged and we have driven it last night and this morning.
    I still hadn't had a call by 5PM today so I called them back to check and I actually hadn't had my policy activated at all, it has since been activated without deposit, a note is on my file explaining about the payment problems and I have to call back on Monday to try paying it again. However that means up until about an hour ago we have been driving the car with no insurance!!
    I am glad it's sorted now but its scary to think what could have happened...
