Qestion for an electrician-is this safe?

Hi there,
Would like the following answered by an electrician or someone who knows a fair bit in this regard.
I have one of those little home ctv camera's (micromart) that you get in argos or b and q. It runs off a 6 volt transformer. I have had to cut the wire to enable to get it hooked up to the skirting around the house.
There was 4 really really tiny little wires inside red black yellow and blue as well as that copper foil stuff (like in a tv aerial coaxial cable) I have insultated each wire well when hooking up again to the corresponding colour on the other end of the ctv cable and everything seems to be working fine.
But question is, I wonder if its safe enough since everything it's insulated ok and its only a 6 volt current?
Many thanks,
martin57

Just make sure the wires are well insulated as you said, maybe even stager the connections so if they do come apart they wont touch another wire.
You could always have a look at Maplin to see if they have a 'proper' solution.
If it does go pear shaped and you get a short then i suppose you could blow the transformer that plug in the mains.0 -
At least you're messing about on the lower side of the transformer. Sounds like you've done everything you can and so should be fine.
Just as a pedantic note "6 volt current" is a bit confusing. Voltage is different from a current. By writing "volt current" it could be misinterpreted as meaning watts (voltage times the current)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

should be fine,chili-dog's suggestion of staggering the connections is always a good idea, ideally crimping or soldering the wires together(and covering the joints with heatshrink) (i'm not a big fan of insulation tape, its a bodge)Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

When I'm forced to make joints like this, I stagger them (as suggested) and cover them with hot-melt adhesive. This makes a strong "blob" which isn't going to fall apart without considerable help.0

Staggered soldered joints and a couple of layers of heatshrink over each

This what I do as well, I use hot melt for lower voltage and 2pac epoxy Resin for higher voltage joins.
As above staggering them is also a good idea.0
