Make sure you get an NUS card if you can

Some universities are starting to discourage you from getting NUS cards. This isn't the same as disuading you from being part of the club itself - they are starting to put the NUS logo on the back of library cards so you only need one and the providers then won't have to spend large amounts of money on a second card. DON'T let them talk you into it because, while most shops will accept the library card as proof many bus companies and HMV will NOT. You end up having to get a card anyway but it'll only be after you've learnt the hard way. Also, not all companies will advertise that they have discounts available for students so read the literature they give you and feel free to ask every teller you see!

I usually fork out the £7 for an ISIC (International Student Card) from STA Travel anyway as that way I can use it when I'm abroad. way more useful than the NUS card and loads more discounts..

hmv do accept my library card if I use it in the city i go to uni in.
