Which P60 - for Student Finance ?

does anyone know whether you need a p60 (proof of income) from this year or last year? my brother used a 2007 P60 but was told he had to use a 2008 P60, which isn't issued until late April ...?
I find this strange, as I'm sure many people have already mailed their ID & proof of income and have therefore included a P60 from April 2007?

Needs to be 2008 P60 or you can also use your March (month 12) payslip to fill in the details - and send a copy of as evidence if required. The 2008 one will be the nearest approximation to your earnings for the following tax year.0
