Optician Need to Vent

Before Xmas I went to my usual optician for an eye test as it was due and I felt my glasses were no longer right. I ended up not bothering as they said my presciption had not changed much and the new varifocals they fitted were just not right and yet again they could not fit contacts. 2 years ago my bill for varifocals was £300. So yesterday I got another test from D&A well my prescription has changed they ordered me new glasses and they fitted me with contacts no problem. Great but I also found out my expensive varifocals of 2 yrs wear with anti glare glass are infact single vision lences with no anti glare:eek: D&A were also shocked and stated I do not need varifocals, I phoned my old optician to query this ( I am well aware I cannot seek any money back as it is 2 years) They are adamant that I need varifocals and that is what I had fitted. If they no longer have these lenses then I must have changed them
I just feel totaly ripped off. I know some my be wondering why I did not notice the difference but this was my first pair of glasses and I just took their advice, to think I could have paid £60 for single vision lences instead of £200 with the anti glare that they did not do. Sorry for the long vent but I wish I had known much sooner then I maybe could have got some of my hard earned cash back.

Given that your 2 visits to 2 separate opticians have given you 2 different prescriptions, I'd go and get another test done with a 3rd one, just to see who is right!!
Don't forget if you use computers at work, you can claim back the cost of your eye test, and get a voucher for the glasses!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
as the prescription is only relevent at that point in time, i have had varying prescriptions depending on time of day i have had the appointment.... whilst the differences where minor, meaning a new pair of specs wasnt requiredsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

not entirely true - it depends what you need glasses for! If you need glasses specifically for long distance / driving for example then you would not get payment for these.
"If the test results show that glasses are needed for DSE work, employers must pay the cost of these corrective appliances. ...... that the cost is met even if the glasses are also going to be used for general reading purposes, where they are also required for DSE work. Hi,
Try ringing your old optician and tell them that you are not satisfied and you are getting conflicting advice from another optician. Then tell them that you will have to refer the matter to the Optical Consumer Complaints Service (OCCS).
Worked like magic for me when I had problems - Just the threat seemed enough - these guys must have sharp teeth!

Sorry,I am being thick here. When you say:If they no longer have these lenses then I must have changed them. Are you saying these are the words they used to you? They are saying you have changed the lenses yourself?0

I expect your first opticians are suggesting that you are mistaken, rather than believe they managed to supply someone with single vision lenses rather than varifocals, as that is one all mighty !!!!-up !!
before you take matters much further though be 100% sure that D&A have checked your specs correctly as some opticians can be over zealous when it comes to showing up one another. This isnt just a case of finances you have to worry about.
What i find to be most surprising is that you had returned to your opticians in december and at that point they failed to realise your specs werent varifocals, do you still have the specs ? It would be quite easy to check for yourself who is right and if they are indeed varifocals or not.

Hello everyone thanks for all your replies. I can confirm I still have the old glasses and the two prior prescriptions. I have since popped into another optician and they can confirm that my glasses are not varifocals. I am still wearing them while I wait for the new pair. My old optician is adamant they supplied varifocals and that I must have changed the lences myself:eek: if they are no longer varifocals.
Thanks Bubblesbonbon I will check out this link.Fire up the Quattro!0 -
