No sound from Laptop - Mute not on

Hi, I started up me laptop (a Dell inspiron 6400) as usual a few days ago and have no sound coming out it. I have checked all the levels are fine and mute is not on. When i put headphones in i get nothing but when i put them into the microphone one i get a tiny bit of sound for split second and thats it.

I think this may have happened after i closed my computer down but never turned off lime wire while it was paying a song. Would this have caused it

Any help would be great as i don't have a clue.

From what you say, you've already opened the Advanced volume control panel and checked that the relevant source (usually called Wave or PCM) is not muted?

Also, hardware drivers for devices occasionally just stop working for no apparent reason.

Something to try: go to the Dell website Support and Downloads section and download the latest audio device drivers for your laptop. Then in Device Manager, select the audio device and update the driver with the latest version.
