Time limit on credit card transactions?

Hello. I paid for a meal with a credit card back in October and as yet, the monies owed have not appeared on my credit card statement. I feel slightly guilty for not alerting the restaurant as presumably they haven't received the payment for the meal but as the meal and service were terrible, I'm also reluctant to highlight the error. I have a printed receipt from a machine for the payment. I was wondering if there was a period of time whereby credit card transactions become invalid if they haven't been claimed / paid?

Legally I think it's 6 years, but the CC companies have their own internal rules with a much shorter period. However as they are their own rules they can ignore them if the merchant makes a sufficiently convincing sob story.
You are probably safe after 5 months - but don't rely on it.0 -
As dzug says it is 6 years.
I have had an "electronic" payment take 7 months to appear before.0 -
That's cool, maybe the card processor knew you didn't enjoy the meal so it decided not to charge you. : )0
