Cavity Wall Insulation-good idea?
Comments

Wageslave - when we had cavity wall insulation installed many years ago (rockwool fibre) I seem to remember that it was pumped in from a portable storage container so that none of it is released into the outside environment. The whole operation was very efficient and only took a few hours for our detached house. Over the 30 years it has been installed it must have saved us a small fortune in heating bills, especially these days with the rising cost of gas. We have never suffered any kind of damp problems as a result either.0

Hi all,
I had my cavity wall insulated earlier this year and I must say, it's done wonders for my home. I have suffered no such cold spots and my heating bills are lower than previously. I actually used a company via its website cavitywallinsulationgrantsdotorgdotuk, to cut a long story short, I have not suffered the short comings of other posters regarding the cold spots, bad jobs, messy cowboys etc and have actually got something decent to say about this company. Basically the job cosy me £150 with the remaining cost paid for by the uk grant scheme, nice and tidy, and done within a few weeks of making contact with the above web address.:j0 -
Hi, have been interested to read all the various comments about cavity wall insulation and the grants available.
Wondered if anyone could advise in applying for a grant at what point you are committed to the grant?
What sort of price should I be paying for CWI for a semi-detached 3-bedroom house?
Are there any good comparison search engines to help find the cheapest/best value firm that does it?
Thanks a lot for any help.0 -
Is it possible for a layman to know if a house has CWI? We were led to believe our property had it when we bought but there are no tell tale holes around the walls. It seems to cool down very quickly after the heating goes off yet we have double glazing and loft insulation that we laid ourselves (so we know that`s there for sure).0

I had CWI done about 4 years ago. Although impressed with the thermal properties initially, I started to get damp in one room a few months later. A builder friend said he would never install it.0

I had a CWI survey done in my previous house and the surveyor said not to do it due to some wall ties being caked in mortar.
Apparently I would have great benefit from the CWI for a few years then suffer from damp problems that would cost hundreds, if not thousands, to rectify.
He did say that for most properties it is a no-brainer, you just need a good and honest surveyor!!0 -
Most insulation firms offer a free, no obligation survey and advice on Grants etc. Probably the best known is Eaga who have the Warmfront contract.0

Anyone know what the average price for CWI is nowadays? I have a 2 bed semi detached property and am thinking of getting this done soonish.
Thanks
