CWI is great but make sure the air bricks have a suitable casing put in before filled or damp will get in when air isnt circulating. This should be done by the contractors. "damp spots are inevitable if the air bricks are blocked up.check them b4 you panic over the damp.
There are grants for people on some benefits.0 -
B&Q are offering Cavity wall insulation for half price at the mo. Installed by British Gas.

This maybe cheaper, depening on size of your house.
Anyone know how long this offer runs for? Is the BG installation any good?0 -
Hi guys,
Im new at this but I am trying to save money, and be debt free, so I have been flicking through a few pages looking at things I can do and came across this... I work in the industry and there are a number of places you can get cheap cavity wall insulation and various grants. The cheapest one at the moment I believe to be affordable energy, they are nationwide and use a mineral fibre so that the walls can still breath so you don't get the damp problems like there used to be with the foam filling. There number is 0800 0966356, price is £189.00 unless you are over 70 or claim a qualifying benefit then you can get it for free:T. Hope this helps you all. Im off to find ways I can pay off my huge debt quickly.

I had an opportunity to have loft insulation and cavity wall insulation for £99 each (subject to survey). Unfortunately my walls are not suitable, but I had the loft insulation topped up the other day.0

Call the Energy Savings Trust Energy Efficiency Advice Centre for independant advice on 0800 512 012 or visit www.est.org.uk. The centres are regional so can give up local advice on grants available etc. All advisors are fully trained energy advisors and when I call were very useful!0

We would love to top up our loft insulation and a neighbour kindly gave us some he had left over but our loft is 3/4 boarded out , so it would mean unscrewing all the boards to put in more insulation and then the insulation would be too high for us to put the boards down again without compacting the insulation down.. defeating the object... any ideas how to get around this problem?#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Insulation works by trapping air and preventing transmission of heat due to air currents. If you insulate the areas not boarded and tuck it in where possible under the boards it will be almost as effective. Leave an area under any water tanks to prevent them freezing though. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -

Get some same size fruit boxes, Tesco are desperate to get rid of them. Put in the insulation, cover with another on top and the final 'insulated box' topped off with an empty box with a weight to hold it down (maybe a book of whatever you store in the loft.
You may have to tape a few holes and something to squeeze the whole setup.....free and moveable when you move house.0 -
