If it hasn't got a card slot then it can't be freesat from sky and I didn't think proper freesat had launched yet. So what sort of freesat is this?

it'll be free-to-view stations so if you point the dish at astra 28.2 you will get bbc1/bbc2/itv and a whole bunch of other channels but no channel 4 / five as these require a freesat card from sky (and a receiver which can take the sky card - which the receiver from b&q will not)

Ok then the original post should be changed to remove the "Freesat" name and adding those links to your post will just confuse further as this is NOT freesat be it from sky or otherwise.

Sky does not own the name Freesat, it nicked it, just like it nicks programmes that were previously FREE to watch in the UK like The Simpsons, 24 , Lost etc.

Sky's version of "Freesat" is hardly FREE, because if you are not downgrading from a Sky contract, which you probably paid a fortune for, nor own a Sky box, then you have to BUY a Sky card to watch it on a second hand SKY box.

This is not a Sky box so no card is needed to watch fta channels.

Freesat is a colloquial name for free to air broadcasts in general. It will receive the new BBC FREESAT when it is launched and as the channels that are locked into the Sky bundle like 4 and 5 will leave Sky and not need a card to be viewed.. Take it up with B&Q who call the offer Freesat

The BBC owns the name Freesat.

Freesat is NOT a colloquial name for free to air broadcasts in general. That is F.T.A.

    Sorry not true.

According to the Patent Office the Freesat name (and also brand image) is owned by Freesat (UK) Limited.

According to the record it was ' Assignment to: Freesat (UK) Limited from The British Broadcasting Corporation - Date Actioned: 5 December 2007

    See Link HERE for proof

Freesat (UK) Limited is a JV between ITV and the BBC according to their website.

See Link HERE for this information

    Hope this clarify's this point!

You can get freesatfromsky for £60 from John Lewis using a code (usually £75).

You'll get 4 months of some mixes or other for free and then pay unless you cancel. It includes installation but unfortunately you have to be a new customer and connect it to a phone line for 12 months too.
