I'm a bit (well, totally, really!) confused about all this!

Why would I want to spend £60 for this kit (and have the hassle of fixing the dish to the roof) when I can get a set-top box for under £20 almost anywhere?

You probably wouldn't benefit - if all you after is English programmes then stick to Freeview. This kit can also pick up Italian, French German channels on Hotbird. Personally I'd get a real Satellite reciever from a company like Technomate and providing your down South connect it to a Sky dish from eBay - with cable you'll get change out of £100 and end up with a Much Much better piece of kit, but I stress again, if you want English speaking, stick to freeview as Sky have got the monopoly in this country, so without one of their boxes and cards you get very little - cheaper and less hassle.

Agreed. I did something similar about a year or so ago. Got a Technomate receiver, I had an old sky dish with a dodgy LNB so I bought a monoblock. Pointed it at 19.2E and 13E and after patching the receiver I could get lots of good channels for free.

A lot of these channels show good boxing and its free. The Hatton Mayweather fight was free on certain german channels. The David Haye fight a few weeks ago could also be seen for free. You can still get premiership football for free.

It is also illegal, so mentioning it on this site could get the site owners in to trouble.

There are still alot of people who can't receive freeview now and won't be able to until 2012!.Also may need a new aerial if the signal is weak that will set you back about £120 to get a new aerial fitted.

Freesat is a colloquial name for free to air broadcasts in general.

No it isn't freesat (not freesat from sky) is a new service being offered with an epg which to make use of the receiver has to know how to handle. Yes these boxes may be able to receive the channels but not necessarily the freesat epg.

I can see freesat has got a job on its hands trying to stop the confusion over this.

oh and if i'm in B&Q and see this i will be taking it up with them.

Found this on another site -

"Just rang Canterbury B & Q. They say receiver is Skyline 28201HS and dish is 60cm."
