Subject: re: AOL BROADBAND SERVICE / FIREWALL / ANTI VIRUS
I have 2 separate queries re my AOL Broadband service:
1) I signed up for AOL Silver Upgrade for 18 mths on 31/1/08.Since then,i've had constant disconnections and now have to go through layers of security every time I switch my pc on and have a message 'dialupbb' that I simply don't understand !.
Despite completing AOL surveys and asking numerous times for customer services or a manager to call me,i'm just fobbed off with the usual lame excuses and 'you'll have to phone the technical helpline'.This means a 20+ min wait,av. cost £1.50, problem still not sorted.I'm not a techie, but I want this sorted ! AOL's service is 'toilet',its clear they have me on a contract and don't give a damn about service.I tried their 'live help'support, but was told I had to reinstall my disc used to set up AOL.This is a pain! Can anyone please help?
2) Last year,I was instructed to automatically download a McAfee Security update, which I did.Since then, when I sign on to AOL,my sign on screen says Firewall 'not detected' and Anti Virus 'not detected'.I sometimes see the McAfee logo on screen, indicating its installed and on my task bar,but I'm not sure if it's functioning properly. Can anyone please help?

1) Escalate your complaint to ISPA (Internet Services Providers' Association):
http://www.ispa.org.uk/cgi-bin/complaints.cgi
It's the best way to get an ISP to listen when you've reached the point you're at.
Sample letter here.
2) I'd uninstall the buggy resource-hog McAfee and use AVG Free (anti-virus) and Online Armor Free (firewall) instead. The true cost of something is what you give up to get it.0
