Jet2 and cancellation policy - info required.

A friend has decided that she can no longer go on holiday and is trying to get some money back on flights she booked with Jet2.com.

She is trying to get the taxes back as she is not flying and therefore shouldn't be taxed as if she was flying.

Jet2 have told her she can get the government tax back, but cannot get the airport taxes back. I would have thought that all the tax element of a flight should be refunded if the ticket isn't used.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If they are like any of the other budget airlines she will find that by the time any admin fee has been taken from the refund she is left with nothing to be refunded.

Jet2 are a rip-off airline, I have travelled twice with them and they would rob their own grandmother, avoid at all costs.

No they are not a rip-off. They are a budget airline who will charge you for whatever they can, if you tick the box that says you agree to their T&C's before you make your booking you cannot complain at any charges they may make for changing or cancelling bookings.

Can I ask you if you read the T & Cs of every company that you deal with, in detail?

I maintain that Jet2 simply lie in wait for travellers who, for instance, expect to receive a refund for an unused ticket, only to find that the cost for the refund is the same as the cost of the original ticket,

Of course, they are a rip off outfit!

One should never assume or 'expect' anything.

As others have said countless times before, if you don't like the T&C's associated with cheaper airlines or cheaper non-refundable tickets then pay full whack for a fully flexible ticket

Well now that you mention it - yes i do!

I've just booked a fairly expensive flight with Thomson and prior to booking i checked all the details of the booking and then i read (only briefly mind) their T&C's. I know that the booking is non-refundable and any changes i make i will be charged for and also may be charged extra if the price of the flight has changed.

You are perfectly correct in what you say.

Obviously, these, and other budget airlines are looking to take advantage in any way they can.

I was charged an excess luggage charge on 1 kg at LeedsBradford by Jet2 and I totally agree they are entitled to charge it, yet when I left Boston last year, obviously not with Jet2, but in economy I was allowed a full suitcase free of any excess charges.

We were told that the Americans will not accept these sort of charges, although how they refuse is open to question! We all must be aware of the pitfalls and I feel everyone should be aware of them.

Can I also say that I have been advised that anyone should always pay a demand for excess luggage by credit card as there is a possibility that any cash handed over tto the relevant airline may be distributed to the airline staff.

There is no such thing as "airport tax". Passenger service charges levied by airports are not tax and therefore the airlines don't have to refund them.
  • Like all budget airlines Jet2 offer the most basic fares which often mean that they risk losing money on every flight that they fly, that is why they and all other budget airlines have to charge for everything else so they can keep running.

Terms and condition still apply whether you choose to read them or not, so if you don't like their policy and were not aware of it before you booked then it is your own fault for not reading the Ts and Cs.
