I don't really like frankfurt so I would recommend you get out of the city - bad homburg is a short trip away and it has a nice castle type building0

I like Frankfurt `old town` a lot but I also recommend a place called Wiesbaden. It`s a lovely little town for a get away, about 40 mins from Frankfurt. I think you can go by train and maybe it`s worth a look if you get bored of Frankfurt0

Sorry to say it, but Frankfurt is the most boring place I've ever visited. I guess similar to Washington DC, it's a business town and not a lot there for the tourist.
One thing could be, if you're flying Ryanair, Hahn airport has probably the best "duty free" shop of any Ryanair airport I've been to...0 -
There is a restored Roman Fort in Saalburg, Near Bad Homburg.
You can do cruises on the river, they are good fun.LBM:1/1/12Debts @ LBM:£43,546  Debts now: £9,486  78% PAIDFound YNAB 1/2/14 - the best thing EVER!0 -
I went to Frankfurt for a few days last December. I was visiting a friend who was working there and although it was not the most exciting place I found plenty enough to amuse myself for a few days.
There's a rather nice botanic garden which is a short journey away on the metro. In December, wandering around the palm houses was the best way to defrost. There was also a very nice cafe/restaurant there overlooking the gardens. In Frankfurt itself the Cathedral is worth a look as is the nearby municipal museum which has some interesting models of how Frankfurt used to look before the war and various other changing exhibitions. There are lots of museums and galleries along the south bank of the river. The town's main art gallery has an interesting collection by world class artists and again there is a very nice cafe/restaurant inside which you can access without entering the museum if you wish. We also went to the communication museum which was more interesting than it sounds - lots of robots etc and buttons to press. There is a museum card available if you intend to visit a lot of museums which is very do-able due to their close proximity to one another.
On the south bank there is a quirky flea market on Saturday mornings. I also noticed a steam engine on the other bank of the river on the Saturday which seemd to be offering trips back and forth along the river. I imagine in April there will be good river boat trips as well.
I also rather enjoyed the shopping in Frankfurt and found plenty of bargains for my Euros. All the shops are relatively close together in the city centre and one of the department stores (sorry, can't remember the name again) has a viewing platform with great views across the city. As I recall you can also go up to a viewing gallery in one of the skyscrapers in the financial district.
There are a few theatres in Frankfurt. The Alte Oper is a rather spectacular building (think "Phantom of the Opera" on the outside of the building although it is completely rebuilt inside) and has a good programme of events. Various international shows tour to there so there is often a show suitable for tourists. Inside there are interesting photos of the building before it was refurbished (it was severly damaged during the war and stood empty for decades before it was rebuilt). There is also a smaller English language theatre near the financial district and of course the main Opera House. I recall there is also a cinema and some films are shown in English.Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...0 -
Incidentally, I found it tricky to find a decent guide book at the airport on my way out so I would recommend hunting around in advance. I ended up using the Thomas Cook one which had a good synopsis of attractions but the maps were rubbish. I got a much better map from the hotel lobby! I also used the Rough Guide to Germany which was a bit hefty to lug around but had some interesting bits of blurb in there.Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...0

I thought I`d booked a cheap flight 1st time around but I could never have been more wrong! The overall cost was the same as a flight to Frankfurt Main and it took me 2 hours to get there. (i didn`t do my research 1st time around  )
I don`t know how they have the cheek to call it Frankfurt Hahn anyway.....it`s no where near Frankfurt! 2 hours by bus that costs 26 Euro return. Next time I have to make a trip I`d pay the extra money on a proper airline if needed and avoid all that hassle. It`s just not worth it.
Dusseldorf is almost as worse.....(Dusseldorf Niederhain). I know the likes of Ryanmare fly to these places to `cut costs` but sometimes the airports Ryanair fly to are just taking the mickey0
