hi folks,hope someone can point us in the right direction here.my son has been living with his girlfriend for 12 months now and they want to find out how they go about him adopting her little girl.they came and asked us if we knew how but we haven,t got a clue:confused: .could someone advise us where to go to go about this.all advice gratefully recieved.

    i think they need to contact their local social/childrens services office and ask what the procedure is. not sure if it differs area to area

    If the little girl's father is named on the birth certificate then you would most certainly be best placed to contact him and ask for his agreement. If you have that, contact your local social services who will guide you through including the new registration process.

    If you don't have his agreement then go straight to social services.

    Is it true that if a partner adopts your child, you have to give up your parental rights and adopt the child yourself as well? :confused:
