Could you possibly give me a pointer about changing the p.c.'s IP address? Sorry to be a nuisance! I don't think I can change the printer's or set it to DHCP.

You ~must~ be able to change the printer's IP address! It would be a fairly useless network printer if you couldn't (because different companies adopt different IP addressing schemes, and most use DHCP).

Changing the PC's IP address depends on which OS you are using.

For example in Win XP, choose Control Panel, Network Connections and right-click on you LAN connection. Choose Properties, highlight Internet Protocol, Properties and then "Use the following IP address".

Make your mind up in advance how you want to choose your addresses. A good choice is either 10.0.0.x or 192.168.0.x, as neither of these address ranges is valid outside of your own "private" network (these address ranges cannot be routed within the Internet), and hence your network is intrinsically more secure.

The "Default Gateway" will need to be set to the internal (i.e. LAN) address of your Linksys router.

If you don't understand how to do the above properly, a much better approach would be (as others have already said) to find out how to enable the DHCP client on your printer and use DHCP for everything.

Sorry - just found out how to set the printer to DHCP and it is now working again. Apologies for my ineptitude and many, many thanks to Fwor, BillScarab and potsofmoney(i wish) for helping me get it back on track! Much appreciated.
