Do Icesave actually answer the phone?

They still have not successfully transferred my ISA from the Halifax to Icesave.

Every time I call them, which has taken from 20 mins - 1 hr to get through, the staff member gives me a different story.

I've now asked Halifax to resend the funds to Icesave myself, as Icesave obviously don't want to do this themselves.

Got through to Halifax immediately every time.....

If it were not for the great interest rate I'd go somewhere else.

Strange one. But .... as the funds were wholly withdrawn (inc previous years) from the old ISA prior to (attempting to) funding the new ISA ..... HMRC should take the view this is a 'self transfer' under the provisions of Section 12.32 of the document below :-

......... it's only the fact that the new ISA funding wasn't smooth that casts doubt. But I think the intention was clear that all the funds were (inadvertently) destined for the new ISA? So HMRC should allow it?

I would recommend anyone transferring to Icesave, to ask their existing provider to send the cheque via Special next day delivery. My experience was that if you ask, they will agree. ( they may change their minds if too many MSE's do this).
The reason being Icesave will not pay interest until they've received the cheque so it is important to minimise loss of interest in transit. Also you've then got proof of receipt of cheque at the Icesave end.

You may be right and I hope you are.

However was the other ISA actually closed?

Thanks everyone for the input. I haven't yet read jem's link as I have had to take tablets and have a rest, such is the anguish this is causing me. I fully talked it through with the Inland Revenue's ISA people and was told it can be corrected but I take on board Jem's narrative and am starting to "prepare" myself for that happening.

However, I will state that Icesave's Customer service is shocking and if people are attracted by the interest rates, be aware you could be totally ignored as I am. Suffice to say that the 2 promises of a manager calling me have turned out to be untrue and I'm going to have to try on the phone again in the morning. It may be that nothing can be done for me but they could have the decency at least to contact me after promising to do so, in fact I wasn't aware there was a problem until the balance of funds were CHAPed into my current account.

Thanks again for the feedback and enjoy your weekends folks.

Yes .... it was closed by the fact all the funds were withdrawn (Section 12.33). But it's not helpful to the cause that funds have been returned to the current account. But you could solidly allege that is 'manager' error via misinterpretation!

Incidentally the (still Draft) 2008-09 HMRC pdf is a bit unstable! It's a factor of 5 times larger than its predecessor despite having relatively little changed info. I'm assuming the watermarked 'Draft' and some left over highlighting is accounting for most of that?

Yes, sent one on 13 March and two weeks later as of today 28 March still no reply or even an acknowledgement.
  • Hi,

I've just cancelled the transfer of money from my current ISA provider to Icesave. I've been trying for over a week now to contact them by telephone (using both the numbers listed on this forum), sometimes holding for 45 minutes at a time and have been cut off several times in the process. It's not good enough. I have also tried e-mailing them but haven't received a reply. Their interest rate may be high but their customer service sucks!
