close current account to avoid charges?

I have a joint account with my bf, and he used the account by mistake on paypal to pay for something costing £315. when he realised he'd made the mistake, we got paypal to refund it and repaid for the item with a CC. (14th march)
when he told me what he'd done, i logged into lloyds, but nothing had happened, but just incase I got my brother to transfer me £300 to cover the £315 possibly going out. still nothing happened on lloyds, so 3 days after he lent me the £300, i transferred it back to him. (17th march)
then when i logged in on the 18th, £315 had been taken from the account , very angry, i got my bro to lend me the £300 again, which he did, but it didn;t get paid into my account until 5.10pm, which is after the 3pm cut off. according to the people on the phone i would get charged £20 for going over my limit, £15 for going £170 over my limit and interest of no more than £1
so on march 22nd, i go into my lloyds and ask about the fee, and if there was any chance of getting it refunded. they check out the systems, but there is yet to be any sign of any charges being applied to the account and am told to go back in a week to see what happens. Plus apparently, they send out letters to let u know when the charge is to be applied and how much etc etc.
my question is, if i close this account now (hopefully the charges r not on their system yet) will i escape paying them £20 + £15 + interest? or is this a stupid idea?

May be being a bit thick here, but if Paypal refunded the money and it was still taken out, surely it's Paypal you have the issue with?
They should apologise and refund your charges for you - it sounds like you've paid twice for the same item.BSC member 131 :j Now bring me that horizon...

they took about 4 days before they took payment, the refund has yet to hit the current account yet0

Hi,
If you paid in the same day you won't be charged (unless the item was returned unpaid).
Charges will show the next day, so if you asked and they told you no charges were showing then you will be ok.:beer:0 -
Paypal have done nothing wrong. When you make a payment and it is refunded, it shows as a debit on your account then a credit
Example: (and it would normally show 2 to 3 days after transaction occured)
24MAR08 PAYPAL -£305.00
2MAR08 PAYPAL +£315.00.
And unfortunately, they probably wont let you close the account until the charges are paid. Even if they dont show on your account or Lloyds system yet, when they request a settlement on your account to be able to close it, it will bring up the charges. Double check with them though.0 -
To close an account any accrued charges plus interest would have to be paid.0

Sadly if it were that easy, everyone with an overdraft/charges/loan would do it. They'll have your address and chase you up.Comping Challenge: 2 x CDs £30, Outlet Shopping Vouchers £50

Why exactly, is it unfortunate?
Because I dont want anyone to take offence to what Im saying. People read sentences in different ways, it's impossible to get the tone posters are using. So many people get abuse on here, even though they re just trying to help which is pathetic and defeats IMO the purpose of this website. Even there, with you asking me this question, I have no clue if you re "telling me off" or just asking.0 -
That's why the smiley (emoticon) was invented.
In the early days they were basic ... ;-)
(You have no idea how hard it was to NOT get that converted to a little round face!)
Nowadays, with graphics, almost anything is possible.

Edit:
That "3some" is supposed to be a "group hug" ... :doh:Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.
