3 of us sharing a house - chepest way to insure???

I am just about to move into a rented property, with myself and 2 other friends.

Our tennancy agreement states we have to have contents insurance, so I am just about to get onto Insuresupermarket and see who is cheapest.

One thing, would it be cheaper for just one of us to be a policy holder and (if the worst happens - touch on wood it wont) he would just claim on behalf of all of us. Or do we have to put each of the 3 names onto the policy, and will this be more expensive to do?

Cheers in advance.

I know CIS have a good policy that works for up to 3 people. I dont think there is any change in cost. I had their insurance and they said it would cover my housemates to (up to the limit I insured for) so we could have clubbed together if there had not been 5 of us. Still, might be worth persuing for you!

You might well find that you won't be eligible for standard contents insurance as the three of you are not a family.Try Ensleigh or Saxon who will cater for professional flat sharers like yourselves.

Exactly, but surprisingly CIS allow this. I bet they are cheaper than Endsleigh too

I am not affiliated with any insurance company FYO

It is always worth checking the T&C of your policy: if you are not a 'standard' family, there may be an exclusion to say that you're not covered for theft if there is no sign of forced entry.
