Here's my guess, as it's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' type of question, without knowing what has caused the door to jam.

About 1/2 hour labour to 'investigate' cause of jamming, then another 1/2 hour to fix problem, plus cost of any parts required.

At a main dealer, labour costs are around £70 per hour outside London! An independent garage would charge around £40 per hour. Parts should be relatively cheap, say £20. So at a garage, the total cost might be £60 - £90.

For an R reg Fiesta, your best bet is to ask a friend/neighbour/work colleague who is quite handy with car maintenance. Offer to buy them a pint or two of beer afterwards, (cost £6), and they will also feel good for having helped you! Also, the problem might be quite simple to fix (eg a part inside the door could have come loose, and if it is put back in place, the door will work fine.)

If you carry passengers in the rear of the car, I'm sure you want the door fixed - they might need to get out of the car quickly, which is difficult with a jammed door.

thanks - was caused when tried to open door from inside that was locked but person outside was trying to open at same time - which caused the jam, dont really have people in back at all, but with MOT due has to be fixed.

Are any of the handles loose to the feel?

yes the one inside the car is loose, looks like the door is open, wont go back into place as if it were shut?
  • Best thing is to remove the door card and have a look. Its probably very simple, a cable or hook has slipped off etc.

Exact same thing happened to me when I had a 1.4 R reg Fiesta, the cable on the passenger door had snapped.
If you've got a local scrap yard you can try them, or alternatively go to http://www.partsgateway.co.uk/ and put in all the details and about 6 different Ford scrap yards will email you a price ;)
