pre pay elec EON

Options
i completed on a house 6th feb
but didnt move in till 6th march

anyway....... the pre pay elec meter had £5 of credit on it, and i topped it up with another £10 while we were popping in to decorate.

that all was fine lasted the mth till we moved in. then i added another £20
so it never went into emergency.

A letter arrived with no name on from EON saying 'we' (not sure as estate agents name on letter)
owe £6+ of electric, how can that be when prev owners on pay as go meter ? and left it ion credit.

anyway the gas............. well we set the gas to come on for 1hr at a time twice a day while house empty in case of cold pipes.

we moved in on the 6th march and a week later on the 12th march my gas was switched to my previous supplier (from prev address)

so from 6th feb till 6th march only 2hrs gas a day used.

now a bill (estate agents name on again) has come from EON gas £67 !!! estimated till
march 11th (the day before the switch)

i will have to get the meter reading i gave my supplier and tell EON that reading was on 11th and they should have prev occupants reading so we can get the bill right.

but im stumped about the elec ....... how can a pre pay meter that had £5
credit on be in debt ?????

is this EON's way of getting me to call so they can become the provider ?

This would cover most of it. If the previous tenants left about £5 and you used it, you have used £5 more than you paid for. Were all the readings accurate? Tha could explain the rest of the difference.

As for the gas, did you check the reading when you moved in? If they have used a lower reading (estimated or unscrupulous previous tenant) that would push your bill up.

Did you ever tell E-on that you had moved in? If not, that would explain why your name wasn't on the bill.

There was £5 on meter and as only popping in to paint (only using kettle for cuppa) when that got to about £2 i put £10 on.

as for Eon i didnt know who was the provider when i moved in so i was waiting for a bill to come, and yes gave my meter reading to my provider.

...............now to top it all the man cam just now to change meter ...... but he cant as he would have to go up more than 2 steps on ladder and isnt allowed !! so next friday 2 men have to come one extra to hold the ladder !

I laughed when he told me !! so another morning off work and desperatly need credit as soon as the shop opens !
