Can anyone tell me whether using the Amex or other cashback card for buying through paypal for ebay items gives you the same benefits?

    Yes it does.

Amex get's charged in dollars, so there are 2 lots of commission (1 from paypal and 1 from Amex).
I recently bought an item with Amex and the paypal screen said that this will be refunded.
It hasn't shown up yet, but early days. I am also told by other people that it's refunded.
I'm not worried, just thought it's something you should be aware of.

Just to clarify - paypal adds commission (hidden in the exchange rate) for converting from £ to $.
The Amex adds commsision (again hidden) of about 2.73% for converting from $ to £.

As far as I am aware this comes back.

thanks lisyloo, i've used paypal for the last few years without problem and can swallow the occassional admin fee, i just wanted to ensure that i would still get my cashback from using the credit card---through paypal and therefore benefit
