I've been looking at kit cars, used Elises etc and found this in a copy of "kit car" magazine at work. Looks amazing, very much like an Ariel Atom, but can be built for around £6K.
I'm seriously considering it.

A friend of mine has told me that the word on the street is that this a reasonable kit, but possibly not up to Caterham standards.

Looks like impractical fun if you are prepared to put the hours in building it! If you fancy doing some track days it looks a good bet. Is it the llooks you like? the challenge of building your own toy? What about a Robin Hood lotus seven copy, or one of the Sylva 4-wheeled -motorbike-type kits?IIRC there is a manufacturer called "Tiger" near Peterborough who do something similar.

Alternatively, if its a cheap ragtop sports car- what about a mazda mx5/mgf?

    Robinhood,??????

Go and wash your mouth out.

This is meant as no desrespect to anyone other than Robinhood.

They really should have looked up the definition of "engineering" before they designed their cars.

And before someone bites my head off over the last 30 years I have built/owned a Baja beetle, a Beach buggy, a Dutton sierra (that was admittedly worse than the Robinhood stuff), 2 Westfields, a CC cyclone and an MK indy. I do have an inkling of what I'm talking about.

Apart from the owners, I don't think you will find anyone in the industry that has too many good words to say of RH.

They have been under new management for a couple of years now, so things may change:confused:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I'd do it because I want a cheap means to 4 wheeled fun and decent power to weight ratio. Building it is fine by me, as is the impractical nature of it.

I'm not doing anything yet - I intend to find a part built kit car, because that's the cheapest way to acquire the bits.

IIRC there is a manufacturer called "Tiger" near Peterborough who do something similar.

Its at Thorney Toll - Their completed kits are not cheap but they look impressive lined up at their unit. There is a lot to be said for picking either a kit which has a big following - and usually a forum or a manufacturer close to home for when you are not sure which flanged sproglet the oojamaflip fits on.

If you do do this kit, see if you can get hold of a 1.7 Racing Puma engine!!

  • What a great little motor :) I'd love to give that a go, unfortunately I don't have a drive so wouldn't have anywhere to build it.

Personally I'm saving for another TVR for the weekend car. Have you considered an MX5? They're brilliant little cars and what's more they can be turbo/supercharged.
