What does the law say about this?

Hi people I need some help. I ordered a techie item from a company (I'm not going to use any names), on 12th of Feb this year. It was an open box item.

They rang me to tell that it was not in stock - and they don't sell it anymore.

More than a month and a half later they still have the item advertised on their website!

Where do I stand with this? Have they violated any trading standards law?

I really want the item which they have at full price - on their website. But the one i want is open box and hence cheaper.

    That was considerate of them.

You could be equally considerate and phone them to point out the discrepancy.

If I understand you they don't sell the open box version any more but only sell the full price retail item. Perfectly legal.

Maybe they have decided to start selling it again?

There's no obligation on any company to sell something to you if they don't want to.
