Fitting a new mixer tap

Hi all,

Just been quoted £60 plus VAT (so 70 quid then) for the fitting of a new mixer tap on a metal kitchen sink. The tap is a monoblock mixer, with the two water pipes entering it side by side very close together. The old tap is the original one so the copper piping beneath the sink is solid and so may need cutting/whatever (there's no braided hose or anything like that I'd have tried to fit it myself if there was!!) and whatever new fittings fitted. I've bought the tap from Focus and so all that will be required is the fitting. Is this a fair price? I'm not in London!!
A quick reply would be very much appreciated. Many thanks

Yes to me 60 quid seems very expensive. The job will not take very long approx 30 mins when I replaced my kitchen sink tap for a mixer. All i did was cut down the existing copper pipe tails and fitted to new tap and then connected service valves to each hot and cold supply. If I was you i'd research how to do it and have a go yourself.
  • Cheers riderross, I'll have another look at the web (but I doubt I'll be confident enough to tackle it :o ) Cheers for your help!

Get a 15mm pipe cutter for your two existing hot and cold feeds, you can get the braided pipe connectors you are talking about with both ends push fit, so just remove old tap, install new one and screw in the two pipes into the tap, make sure all solid, now cut your old pipes to the correct length and connect with your pushfit connector. Easy!
