Some Info on a Mergers company

Hi, I am trying to research a company called JR Hoffman & Associates, based in Montreal.

I was contacted by them last night re some shares I hold in a company (can't go in to any more detail in case everything is legit and I blow the chance to make a bit of cash!).

Basically, they offered to buy my shares on behalf of their client at a considerable amount more than they are currently worth. They look, on the surface, to be legit - they have a web site that looks smart, but there doesn't seem to be much info on them in the wwwsphere.

Anyone heard of them? Anyone had any dealings with them? Are they to be trusted?

Your instinct that it's a scam is probably spot on. Where's their website and when was the URL registered? Ask them if they'd like to buy London Bridge from you as well. ;)

whois seems to indicate site registered in Feb 2008.

Oh well, the thought of a really big return on my initial investment made me excited for a while.

Good job I never told the wife or she'd have spent it already!!!

A domain name they've owned for all of 6 weeks registered to privacyprotect.org using a PO box in Holland and they claim to have an office in Monteal on the 18th floor. I wonder if they'll stay long enough to buy any carpets? ;)

My suspicions were aroused even more when I got the non-disclosure agreement emailed and it requested I fax a copy of the share document, my passport (the photo page), my driving licence and my social security number.

Last time a company wanted to buy shares I had in another company they simply sent a letter saying 'we're buying your shares for less than you paid'. Then I got a small cheque.

    Hi

We too got a phone call from the same with regard to some US shares. Same as you, we are browsing the internet to see if the are legit! Have you found out any more info on them?
    :j
  • please could anyone shed any light on the above. We were approached offering a lot more that than the shares were worth.

We have done some research on the company and cant find anything.

Has anyone had any dealings with them or got further information on the company - there based in Canada:j

Ive been following through quite far on this one...they have said that because this is a hostile takeover that the buyer needs 51% of company. They (Hoffmans) have potantial to 'buy' 58% for their client so its a first come first served basis. They say a bond must be put in place and the seller must pay 6% of this bond - never heard of that one before!! They are offering me £200k for my worthless shares but want £8k to be held by a company based in Nevis with an Estonian bank account - hahaha what an intiricate scam this one is!
The thing is that they guys who phone are so detailed about it all its amazing really.
But my advise is that this is a highly sophisticated scam as no solicitor i know has heard of any share deals being done in this manner anywhere!
but then i may just lose £200k...we'll see.
Anyone had anything further on them?

Why are people so stupid and gullible. (I guess greed is the reason.)

    It is an obvious SCAM.

The latest is that a company called Global Equitable Insurance Co www.globalequitableinsurance.com are the underwriters on this 'bond'. And guess what - there website was only registered in Feb this year, along with JR Hoffman's albeit at different addresses. But their website isnt too dissimilar to Hoffmans - they've gone to a lot of work to get this one going!
    TREAD CAREFULLY....or RUN AWAY!!!
